This. The Russians have also been stoking the Catalan independence movement. There's no ideological purity here; just the desire to destabilize the world. A kneecapped US and a disunited Europe are both major boons to Russia and therefore the kleptocrats running that country.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

No you're right, I've been visiting Slovakia for 12 years & lived there for the best part of a year without once paying attention to the history or culture of the place.... Typical English yob abroad I suppose.
Don't have a clue what my Slovak girlfriend sees in me either.

I can tell you all about the taxi mafia who used to run everything or theatre shows in villages like plostin talking about the failure of socialism

Don't be daft maple.

Please find where I explicitly state this is the tipping point for a new Soviet union.
I'm merely pointing out the eu using bully boy tactics to get its way against what it sees as inferior nations, it's not a happy healthy EU.

As for your other post, Bratislava took me a little by surprise the first time I visited, particularly the amount of gypsies begging for money at the train station but it has its own charm and I enjoy my time there.

I did not say they would enter into a new Soviet Union, my words were 'push them back into the arms of the Russians'. That was in reply to you saying:

The EU are doing everything they can to push Poland,Hungary,Slovakia,Czech Republic etc back to towards Russia.

In my simple brain, one sentence follows on from the other.

If however you had said 'of course that would never happen given the history' I would have concurred.

You have my admiration and envy for having a Slovakian girlfriend, they melt the heart with their gorgeousness.

I didn't think it needed explaining.
It's our EU overlords that are the issue not these Eastern euro countries, I happen to support their stubbornness (not EU stubbornness).

As for Russian interference on twitter, I thought most accounts on Twitter were bots whatever political persuasion you can think of.

Which brings us back to the original issue - to what extent should this be permissible, allowing a foreign state to utilise social media, for its own ends over national ones.

I'm kind of pro-exit, but I want that to be because the British people specifically chose that, not because of manipulation towards the ends of a foreign state.

I don't think its just an issue for Brexit, or the US election, but that it fundamentally undermines the principle of democracy, if we allow foreign powers to attempt to influence national decisions and governments.

I suspected as much....That 'punk' unknowingly postmodernist contempt for society's structures and desires has a weird kind of pull.....A 'two fingers to the lot of them' enjoyment element.

All bulls*** of course....well, in the case of the Sex Pistols anyway.....in it for the dosh and love flaps like the rest of them.

Haven't we been doing that by different means for decades?
There is no way to effectively control the internet without closing it off. The voter better wise up to all the crap out there.
To be honest, foreign propaganda would have to go some to overpower our own. It is endless and everywhere.

What the h*ll are you talking about Jamie?

If you think I was being ironic about Slovakian girls you have clearly never visited the place.
