Alcohol Minimum Unit Pricing

There's absolutely no evidence that price influences drinking habits. For alcohol and tobacco, the price has been rising steeply for at least a decade. The use of tobacco gradually declines, as it always has done, price rises or not. The biggest changes come from society itself. If anything, the EU countries with the biggest social problems with alcohol (generally northern, rather than central/southern Europe) also have the highest prices/taxes. So, if price is a factor, we really should slash prices immediately, for the nation's health. I jest of course. But I hope I've made my point nonetheless.

But it isn't the state denying them these things.....and that's the point. It isn't for the state to dictate to the poor but not the rich....which is essentially the result of this. It's forcing the powerless to follow your tune. If you have a problem with drink culture then ban strong alcohol and put limits on how much can be purchased by an individual......I wouldn't agree with that action but at least...if carried out correctly... it would affect everyone.

That's not entirely true, when I was a poor teen I'd get w*ankered on strong cider, special brew or Tonic wine. As soon as I got a job, I started drinking better quality beers, and the occasional bottle of plonk, even occasionally buying average brand spirits. Now I'm doing alright, I find I can get w*nkered on a decent wine, a craft beer or the spirits I really like. But I don't think I ever thought, f**k it I can't afford to drink.

That's a bit of a strawman argument. The poor hjave access to transport - the functional basis of necessity of travel. Sure, rich people get to travel in oppulance, but the Number 31 or a Vauxhall viva is as good as a Ferrari in terms of functionality. Minimum booze pricing won't help to 'cut down the booze culture', the UK has always had a booze culture, the whole thing now days isn't a patch on what it was like when I was a young man (well ok, it might be, but that's only because of ecstasy). End of the working day, people have earned the right to kick back, relax and do what ever the f**k they like with their bodies, providing its consensual. This health Nazism is just boring. F**k jogging and healthy lifestyles, so you can reach a ripe old age s**ting yourself in some bland room, your kids have locked you up in, trying to remember your f**king name. Live, love and do the things that make you happy, because you'll soon be too old, or too dead. Drink, smoke f**k, drug, dance, stick carrots up you bum whilst wearing a leather mask, have carrots stuck up your bum by someone wearing a mask. Its no ones business - just make sure you do things that make you happy and bring you pleasure. Don't we steal enough time and pleasure from people by making them work 7.5 hours a day to pay for their health care, now we're going to say don't f**king enjoy your life either. If you like running and eating healthy, fine - good on you - but lets not turn into a nation that insists that there is only one permissible route to happiness and life, as dictated by this group or that. I thought we started to get away from that s**t in the sixties by breaking with the nonsense of morality laws and the idea of forcing people to be more 'Christian'. If you like jogging, eating sensibly, and a nice work out at the gym, and drinking in moderation - then good on you. That's not me. I'm happy to pay tax that will provide for all those extra years you'll have on the planet over me, in that care home. I'm unhealthy, and I've had a great f**king life. Drugs, sex, booze, smoking, reading books whilst other people played sports, I stayed up all night dancing with wrecked mong faces. No regrets.

They used to have bars, open all day, in many work places, pubs were ever present, and frequented heavily.
