What's the best train from London?

I went to a match last year from London, and I took a round trip train from Victoria Station to Norwood Junction. It was fine. Slow getting there, and crowded getting back, but no problems.

I'm going again in January, and I realize the trains to Thornton Heath look like they are more frequent and much quicker.

I don't mind walking if it's farther from the ground. Ideally, I want the quickest and least crowded train.

So what is better, the trains to Norwood Junction or the trains to Thornton Heath?

Thanks!

Subject to engineering works, from Victoria, I would suggest getting a train directly to Selhurst station which is the next station after Thornton Heath - it’s slightly nearer to the ground than Thornton Heath

Easy to say if you know which way you are going of course.

Class 377/6 Electrostar I believe.

If it were me I would get a fast to east Croydon then jump on any train back up the line to Norwood junction or Selhurst. Follow the red and blue army

All much of a muchness. Fastest option is probably what Mapletree says unless you can travel from London Bridge. There are fast trains to Norwood Junction that take less than 15 mins.

After the game all trains are rammed because everyone is leaving at the same time (as opposed to arriving over a period) so it's usually worth hanging around for half an hour or so to let the masses die down. Good time for a celebratory/commiseratory beer or two.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!
