Let a non domicile U.S company come in and take over our 400 year old iconic taxi industry, making lots of experienced londoners jack it in, as training for 4 years for minimum wage and buying a new taxi for £65k doesnt wash, then replacing them with mostly foreign drivers who cant drive, 13000 submitted false criminal record checks, tfl have only caught up with 2500 since january, and some uber drivers have been convicted of murder, terrorism and rape in that time! So, apart from having 10500 uber drivers in london with false criminal record checks/ or not a nonse check that taxi drivers , teachers, have to have, and the fact they hardly pay any tax in the uk even thou theyre worth north of 60 billion, employ terrorists, murderers and rapists, lost 57 million peoples personal information to hackers, paid said hackers 100 k off to keep quiet, and it was David cameron conservative pm, george osborne conservative chancellor, and boris bunter johnson con mayor of london who let them in although they were breaking taxi hiring law! That had nothing to do with a close friend of david cameron , his sons godmother, being head of uber in england! Thats good on the con government, maybe not so good for your mrs or daughter jumping in the uber after the chrostmas party! Be lucky!

For me what they’ve done is come in and not made me notice the difference between them and labour government before. However, they’ve done this while cleaning up the financial mess labour left before (like they always do). So, to keep things stable and make small improvements as already noted on this thread while improving our financial position is actually a big achievement. All labour do is buy voters with financially unsustainable policies and leave the country in a poor state before handing over to the Tories to sort it out. My ideal would be Tory Lib Dem coalition so any Tory harshness can be vetoed but at the same time a sustainable country can be built. Conservatives haven’t had the luxury of governing in recent years without having to make significant cuts to clean up after labour. IF they did, I think we’d see some real sustainable improvements.

I don't think that Labour strictly speaking can be blamed for the banking crisis and credit crunch, nor has there been any real spectacular recovery. I think its generalised politics in which people take credit for things they aren't responisible for (Like New Labour and the longest period of economic growth in UK history). I think the capacity of government to control and direct the economy has long since passed to the whims of investors and corporate entities. At best they implement policies that those entities want, so they can ride on their tail coats. Government isn't the real power in the UK, or the world in general, and hasn't been for quite some times. Government serves corporate influences, same way that New Labour did.

So in terms of relative GDP they've taken us backwards. Not one for the "win" column. Productivity is so poor due to a lack of investment by both business and government over a couple of decades. The low tax rate has done little to incentivise businesses to invest, and austerity has had a positively depressing effect on business confidence when it comes to long term capital spending decisions. The hollowing out of UK industry and manufacturing has been a big brake to our productivity. The problems started with Thatcher and have only been made worse since.

Sorry. Cleaning it up? Have you seen the latest debt figures? Have you seen the forecasts for the deficit still not being eroded until probably 2030 (20 years of austerity!) Have you seen the woeful GDP growth figures? Have you seen the living standards and real wages crisis? have you seen what's happened to public services? Have you seen the predictions for massive increases in inequality and child poverty due to the decisions made since 2015? The Tories have made a terrible mess of the economy. History will recognise the 2015 - 2022 (or whenever it ends) Tory government as the worst ever.
