No chance we'll sell anyone decent to them in January unless it's for stupid money; not only are January transfer fees always inflated anyway, they're both relegation rivals, and we have an incredibly thin squad as it is.

I agree, but people think we are going to be buying in January, I doubt more than one.

Pards signed Mutch and Lee for us, I think it's only right that we let him have them again. Maybe both will be willing to do a few swaps, Hennessy for Pickford sounds fair, chuck Yannick in too. Benteke for Rondon and Rodriguez perhaps too.

So after BFS saying he was finished with football management, and giving that as the reason for quitting Palace, he signs to return to PL management. What really happened between him and SP? The same question goes for Pulis and SP.

The right place at the right time

Allardyce never said he was retiring from football management. As I understand it, he said that club football is 24/7 x 365 days a year and that at his stage of his career he felt that managing at International level would interest him rather than club football.Given his longevity as a club manager I could understand his sentiments.

So following the logic of your post ...Everton job is International Level(Everton is country not a club??) and Everton job is less demanding a job than Crystal Palace!

I was just reporting what he said when he left us.

Perhaps having being out of club football for 6 months he feels sufficiently energised to take up the reins once more at club level at a club where he is highly unlikely to be fighting a relegation battle.

I believed Allardyce's comments that the thought of starting on next year's campaign - mere days after having just ended the last campaign with a breathtaking escape from relegation - pushed him into retirement. His comments about an international job suiting him might have been a sly dig at the EFA and/or him announcing his availability for such a gig to any interested national teams.

What he is doing now - signing with Everton - is not in conflict with his post-retirement explanation, IMHO. He's been given an obscene amount of money (for a manager) to run a club for just over half a season while avoiding all the pre-season grind and drudgery. Many speculated that this is exactly what he'd do (sans international gig) so it's hardly a surprise. He waited to get a call from the biggest club without - or likely to be without - a manager (the biggest club that would sign Allardyce, that is, i.e. not Liverpool or Spurs who may yet bin their respective coaches).

I bet he'll have a big war chest for January and will get to enjoy this campaign because Everton aren't the sort of squad who should have been as bad as they were. He'll likely retire again at the end of the year but, even if he doesn't, I don't think he was lying to us back in May. I'm still angry at him for quitting on us like he did, but I don't think he's a hypocrite then or now.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Some people take up fishing or painting in their retirement. Allardyce took up Everton.

It'll be interesting to see how adaptable he is now, as he likes playing with quick wingers and a target man and Everton don't really have either at the moment. I think like with Palace it may take the January window to fix their problems, but with Liverpool's Sammy Lee on-board and the higher expectations I don't think their fans will be especially patient if they don't get results quickly.

Thinking about it, Sam may turn to Bentenke to fix their lack of a target man and were he to go I think he would flourish there with Sigurdsson's set-pieces. I don't want him too, though, I was just thinking.

There has been talk of Everton spending some £142 Mill in pre-season under Koeman but I think they got in £96 Mill from sales so their net spend has been £46 Mill.

My Everton supporting buddies are really up in arms about having Sammy Lee on board.

As I've said before we will have to wait until memoirs are penned before we find out the truth
