I think we need to move Kelly, Mutch and Sako on. We have enough cover at the back now, especially with TFM seemingly able to play across the back line. Mutch needs no explanation and Sako seems to need a regular run to keep his fitness up and never seems to offer anything as a sub.

If we can move those three on (which seems unlikely) then that could free us up to bring in back up to Wilf/Andros and a striker and then maybe we could look to get a GK on loan from abroad with the option to buy in the summer if it works out.

As it stands I think we just need Bentenke to find form and we'll start turning draws into wins. Cabaye is playing the best he ever has for us and Wilf and Andros continue to play well, plus the Tomkins/Sakho pairing looks solid(ish). Roy really has done a great job so far. He looks less one-dimensional in his approach than perhaps we saw under Pulis, Pardew and Allardyce, plus he is intelligent, articulate and pragmatic.

If we get out of the bottom three then I think the confidence will rise and we will pull clear. Of course we have to do that first!

Roberto - currently on Loan to Malaga from Espanyol.

We need a striker and another striker /winger, just someone who can create please. And a gk obviously. We’re one or two players away from being a really good side!

Aren't we always?

I think the only times in recent memory we haven't we're:

Promo side.

Pardew when we actually had a team preparing together through the summer.

While Sakho was fit last season.

There's a lot of work and struggle on the pitch and in the background over the next 18 months regardless of which division we're in.

Short term I'd switch Zaha and Cheek either full or part of games because imo Zaha and Benteke doesn't create enough and when Zaha is dangerous it's when he's found the ball spare in a 2nd phase out wide.

Wouldn't mind Shelvey.
Noticed he was only sub in the last game.

Uncle Roy has got us looking like a team again, we're at least competitive now,I think we'll be out of the bottom 3 before Xmas.
I agree with those saying not to go mad with too many signings, a keeper and a striker is all we need.

Definitely need a keeper on the basis that we only have 2 senior keepers whereas others have a minimum of 3.
And the need for a sriker goes without saying.
A central midfielder who can spray passes about wouldn't go amiss either.

You seem optimistic that there will be a number of purchases in January, I wouldn’t be so sure.
Unless we can move on some of the deadwood like Lee and Mutch, I just can’t see another spending spree like last January, it’s not sustainable.

Its a fair point. In contrast I would imagine preferable to relegation though.

A win against West Brom (which isn't outside the realm of reasonable) could see us well placed to escape the drop zone

"Isn't outside the realm of reasonable" but in my humble estimation somewhat unlikely.

Willo mentioned Shelvey. Listening to Dougie the other week he was very clear that a key consideration for anyone they looked at was 'character'. I agree Shelvey can pick a pass (as he demonstrated when he came on against WBA) but there have been a few episodes in his career that make me think he might fail the character test.

Arguably the 3 most difficult and/or expensive, positions to fill though! We'll be lucky to get 1 of those in Jan never mind 3 ...

No thanks on Shelvey, unless he's being given away. He's not notably better than Cabaye or MacArthur (if at all) and would be a incremental upgrade at best, therefore.

As others have said: focus on a keeper and a striker (or two), and take advantage of any bargains that come our way.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.
