Perhaps we haven’t noticed the change to the back pass rule that allows the keeper to pick up the ball (or push it away) when he is under pressure and so the ref can now judge when the keeper is under sufficient pressure that the back pass rule should be ignored. Which of course is a perfect opportunity for refs to make a decision that favours one team over another, which of course couldn’t happen because we know that they are all scrupulously fair.

It's a handball as clear as day. His incompetence in fielding a backpass doesn't then allow him to handle it. He had simpler options, he lacked -- momentarily -- the skills/decision-making to take them, and put his hand on the ball to stop Wilf from getting it. The fact he lets go of the ball instantaneously is clear proof he knew he handled it. It's a free kick for Luka to blast toward the net/foolish defenders heads.

The Palace fans see this, its always the idiot with the responsibility for managing the game that misses it. Getting a bit sick of poor refereeing and more particularly against us.

And allow them to waste and waste and waste and waste time? You must be kidding. The only reason the backpass rule came in was keeping more flow in the game and I am in no doubt that it has been one of the better changes of the last decades. Originally posted by Pigglelet

Zaha NEVER seems to get the benefit of the doubt. Twice clearly pushed inside box at Amex, now this and there will be lot more wrong-Wilf decisions before season ends.

There is no defence to this for the keeper, I think it is purely a case of the ref forgetting it was a backpass that started it all off. Wilf deffo asked him specifically about the handball and the ref just waved him away without explanation. Just add it to the long list of ones we are owed this year.

This incident would have formed part of the post match evaluation where every decision would have been forensically scrutinised using the match footage and 'ProZone' to measure the Michael Oliver's performance. At the end of the day Zaha and Foster came very close together as Zaha attempted to intercept the pass and the referee from his angle might not have had the best viewing position to judge whether Zaha had made contact with the ball or not.Happened very quickly the players came close together and the referee had to make a split-second decision.Only Michael Oliver will know and he would have had to make his opinion known as part of the assessment. If he got it wrong he got it wrong - does he deserve to be hung,drawn and quartered ? We are all excellent referees after watching 'Slow-Mo' umpteen times. Given you my opinion - nothing more for me to add.
