After initially thinking he might be able to play up front I had the end product doubt a few weeks ago. Seems to have the split second hesitation or need another look.

I think he likes to set people up and cannot do that at right mid with a whole team behind the ball.

My question is, if we do get another striker in to play alongside Bentenke, then where does that leave RLC? I think this could a case of a very good player who is just not suited to the team. Hopefully he and Roy prove otherwise and he helps us climb the table.

Yes this is the problem I feel, we don't seem to be able to fit him in, centrally anyway. Can't see Roy breaking the current Luka and Cabaye Partnership as they offer more protection.

Personally I'd like to see the below, but what do I know!

Ward Tomkins Sakho Schlupp

Cabaye Luka

Wilf RLC Townsend

Benteke

Perhaps we won't get another striker in to pair Benteke; more one to play instead, or come on as sub?

It's possible, but Roy does seem to like his 4-4-2, to the point he is willing to play Wilf and RLC out of position; plus I can't believe we won't get a new striker in, even if it's not someone of the quality we might hope for. Personally I think Roy will want someone who will work hard for the team rather than necessarily being a regular goal scorer (eg Shane Long type).

I do have more faith in Roy than I have had in any of our previous managers in the PL and his surprise selections have generally worked (like dropping Dann and Speroni against Stoke and playing Zaha and Townsend as a front two). Whatever happens with RLC I feel confident that Roy will focus on the team rather than one player.

Agreed that where he is being played at the moment maybe doesn't play to his strengths. And perhaps that's why I think he flatters to deceive - I don't think his end product is all that. Obviously that will improve with experience, but at the moment I think we are in greater need of a more rounded player at Prem level.

I also don't think he has a great 'engine ' - without the ball he doesn't contribute as much as he could. He seems to be too top heavy physically.

He may be taking one for the team at the moment and playing out of position and clearly Roy thinks he's the best man for that job.

Anyway, I fully expect to be slated for my opinion, bring it on...

I agree with you. flatters to deceive is the exact phrase I was using to describe rlc just before he scored the other day...

he's had a lot of squandered chances - then again he's only 20 or summat? whats Benteke's excuse?

What do we think our chances are of bringing him in permanently if he does indeed go to the World Cup? Think it would be excellent for his development and confidence, but you’d assume Chelsea will be more reluctant to sell & bigger teams will be after him as an England international, especially if he plays well.

My biggest problem with Loftus-Cheek, is a similar one that the Saints have had with Ward-Prowse. I don’t think anyone is clear on what his best position should be. When he first came to the club, everything about him struck out to me as a box to box midfielder, but I’m unconvinced he has the energy/work rate to be efficient enough in that role,.

The obvious one at this stage is a number 10/creative midfielder, but it’s yet to be seen if he’s agile and even intelligent enough to consistently play in the pockets. I also always feel it’s a waste of a midfielder with that sort of height to be limited to playing off a striker, when their physical presence can really be utilised from deeper positions when needed.

Having said all that, I am a big fan of his and don’t think many Palace fans would be opposed to bringing him permanently if we can. Will be interesting to see how he fares at the World Cup if he does go - England severely lack depth in midfield and therefore I think he’ll almost certainly get a run out or 2.

We're the Arthur over ere!

No chance at all, without paying completely over the odds.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I don't get this clamour for him to go to the World Cup. Where would he play? As a No 10 he wouldn't get in ahead of Dele Ali or Lingard and he's not even trusted to play central midfield yet for Palace. He needs more development.

That said, Southgate is clearly a big fan and maybe he's prepared to show faith in him that Roy so far has not...

I don't think we stand a chance. Chelski will want a fortune if they do decide to sell, and if he does go to the WC then bigger fish than us will be interested.
