I did a huge piss all over the reading area in my class when I was 8 because I was scared to ask the teacher if I could go to the lav. Despite my trousers being soaked in urine I managed to escape blame somehow. Hardly Sherlock Holmes my teacher.

Maybe I'm an idealist but I think we should try to treat children with respect wherever possible. Can you imagine not being allowed to go to the toilet? It's pretty much just prisoners and children who are treated like that.

Preventing children from going to the toilet to waste time does not mean that they will learn instead - you can't force a child (or anyone) to learn if they don't want to.

The child should really have gone during break time. She is in Year 6 and she would know the class rules by now. Most schools have policies on this and they would begin from at least Y3 upwards so by Year 6 children should know that they should only be going to the toilet at break times. There will be times when children need to go outside of these times and then it is up to the teacher's discretion as to whether or not a child should be allowed to go. Teaching is a difficult job and the parent should support the teacher. I think each teacher will act differently on this issue but as said earlier most schools will not allow pupils to go to the toilet during lesson times as it disrupts learning. It would be nice to think that the parent would be understanding to the child while also supporting the teacher who is only upholding school rules.

I agree you can't disrupt a whole class and understand your point of view.
Although surely it is counter intuitive. If (under the belief they need to go) they aren't allowed to go, they then wont be able to concentrate in class.
I know if i'm in a long meeting and need to go that is all I can think of. So they may effectively be missing a whole afternoon class not concentrating instead of a couple of minutes?

Holding your pee can cause many adverse effects such as:

Constant and strong pain when urinating
Fever, caused by the effect of the bacteria present in urine that were not properly expelled from the body.Shivers, Stomach pains,Cramps, Anxiety, and Difficulty concentrating on anything other than the desire to pee.
Also, holding your urine can increase your risk of infection or kidney disease:
enlarged prostate,neurogenic bladder, kidney disorders, and urinary retention.

There isn’t a set guideline for how long you can safely hold your pee. It varies from person to person.
So, if you got to go, you got to go

They are not waiting for hours, and not long it all if they go at break.
