Problem for the legal system is in most rape accusations both parties have a history with each other and often it will boil down to a case of he said/she said, especially if a crime is not reported immediately.

Which in our court system, makes it bloody difficult to actually gain a conviction, especially if there is no physical evidence in terms of DNA and/or bruising. And given what I believe is the CPS requirement of at least a 55% chance of success, meaning that cases hinging on two people contradicting each other will often not meet that requirement. ( as an aside does anybody know if previous convictions allowed to be bought up in rape case?)

The reality is that for a QC defending a man accused of rape then they have a duty of care to test the states case to the limit and often, if they can sow a seed of doubt, then it's enough for a not-guilty.

Its a crime of such complexity that just shouting about the lack of successful prosecutions has to often be seen as political grandstanding.

The only way to secure more convictions is to effectively lower the requirements for a guilty verdict, with more credence being given to a victims account than that of a defendant. Which I am not sure would stand up to any kind of appeal process, even if anybody thought that a good idea.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

There's a groundswell of 'progressive' thought in this country that would love rape and other convictions to be based upon little more than accusation.

Until it's them personally of course.

This problem is as old as the hills.

It used to be dealt with using chaperones and the males in families looking out for their females.
