Then the representatives we choose take the decisions on our behalf. It's a much better, and safer, way of running a country. Political extremes of all sorts tend to close down other opinions. Right wing dictators do it just as much as the left does. The BBC is not a Party. The Tories are and a faction within it, supported by their press baron friends, are indeed telling us to reject the evidence of our own eyes and ears. I truly hope it is their last, attempted, command.

I agree that parliament could ignore the result of a referendum, but that does not mean "we don't hold referendums" as you said.

With the recent discussion here about the behaviour of cake bakers, when asked to make cakes for others, this article offers an idea that such people could usefully employ as a more positive way of demonstrating their Christian beliefs. It also is an idea that maybe the good people of Barrow, and elsewhere, could keep in mind should Mr Yaxley-Lennon ever decide to visit them again to promote his ideas:-

But its taste is wonderful. Other cakes are available!
