I do enjoy listening to our manager give press conferences. After the nonsense and excuse making of Pardew, the "lets draw all our games" mantra of Allardyce, and the incessant Northern whining of Colin (just to name a few in recent memory).
Hodgson just has a kind of calm, honest, and assured demeanor. He doesnt spin a bunch of half truths to the press, doesnt bite on their numerous attempts to get something controversial, and just talks a lot of sense. In the era of the "special one" and compared to manager's like Wenger, Ferguson and crazy Klopp aka animal from the muppets, you have to respect that.

Spot on. Very happy he is at the helm and has done a fantastic job to turn around the mess we had gotten us into at the beginning of the season, on and off the pitch.

The outstanding thing about Roy for me is that there is nothing about him in whatever he says. BFS. Pulis and Pardew were all about them. Roy has the ability to analyse situations in a calm controlled manner and therefore is able to put his point across in a believable way. He also has passion and will not suffer fools gladly but being a fair man the player on the end of his anger will be able to accept it.
Just the right balance for our club which balances our flamboyant hierarchy.

I agree 99% with the sentiments of the opening post and the various replies since.

However, let's not pretend like Big Sam isn't the best Manager we've had in recent years and is proving that yet again with Everton.

His mantra is "if you don't concede a goal then you're guaranteed a point" not "let's draw every game". I think it's a pragmatic approach and exactly what we needed.

I disagree.
Bog Sam is vastly over-rated thanks partly to his own propaganda (I.e keeping Palace up was apparently the hardest challenge of his career, despite the players we've got and how uch was spent)
He did a worse Job than Pardew when he took over and it was only getting Sakho in that really saved us.

As for Everton theyd already started to turn the corner before he came in, his first win was spent watching in the stands and with the players they've got they should be challenging for top 8 anyway.

Roy Hodgson is a man of unimpeachable integrity, a man of erudition and man of real dignity - a gentleman straight and true.

He is also a highly experienced and capable football manager and well respected in the game.He really is a 'Gloucester Old Spot' of hams and we are privileged to have him as our manager.

Great post, spot on,no pun intended. It's about time we chanted "He's one of our own".

To be honest I wasn't sure when we appointed him but two things stand out for me.
1. He really does know what he is talking about in football terms and without wild histrionics obviously sees everything from the touchline and does what he can to affect a game.
2. He is polite, smiley etc. in front of the cameras but behind closed doors there is obviously a steely side to him and he is not afraid to take and make tough decisions.
I am pleased he is with us and so yet again whilst we seem to get it wrong first time (Manager appointments) the rebound appointment seems to work!

If so, I could be in with a shout!

I would've thought you'd be better off trying a League One Manager VT?

Definitely a gentleman -- I was impressed with Roy's post-Watford interview on cfpfc.co.uk as it gave the honest answers and clarity to the situation. He is not deluded.

I think YT would prefer to be in with a shout with Michaela rather than any League One manager I can think of.

First manager in a long time to make us hard to beat at home! For so long we have travelled well but Selhurst was full of great but disappointed fans. Also we have conceded stupid late goals for so long that I still fill with dread 5 minutes before the end of a match, now it couldnt be more opposite! People were always worried than we would be boring under Roy but lets face it, how many of us will leave the match 10 minutes early when we are 1-0 down again???

I absolutely love how he ain't having any s*** from the media, he sees their leading questions and slaps them down

the man is a gent and proper Palace. Don't think I've respected a manager like RH for a long time

Someone this morning on TalkSh!te said that he comes across as a nice likeable old gentleman but you could bet your @rse he could take the paint off the walls when required.

I can think of someone who maybe had direct experience of that recently
