i'd prefer chris wilder. (who incidentally was Sam's recommendation as well.)

Plays attacking football with good defense base and focus on speed on the wings. Mature manager who wont be intimidated by PL.

It’s a topic that shouldn’t even be crossing your mind at this stage. Talk about how well Roy is doing. Why speculate about him going, and planning for his departure. It’s quite simply ridiculous and stupid.

Why? Any reasonable business would be planning to replace a senior manager if they were in their 70s when they want to go. It’s nothing against Roy - he’s doing an amazing job.

Equally I would expect palace to have a list of players who might potentially be able to replace zaha, benteke etc if a crazy offer comes in or they get injured etc. It’s just sensible planning. In the past few years we’ve had 2 managers leave us in the lurch, if we had someone who could potentially take over ready it would make a transition so much easier.

Isn’t it what Barcelona and Real Madrid do (Zidane and Guardiola for example)

It’s a thing that’s just not done in football, but in our situation it does make sense

To be fair, you're the only one who thinks it is a ridiculous thread. I think it's a good thread, because we need to prepare our options for when Roy inevitably retires; we don't know how long he'll be around - he could technically pack it all in at the end of the season, and then we'd be up s*** creek again. When do we talk about it then? After January? End of the season? Just as Roy announces his retirement?

Conversely, look at a team like Southampton, where they have HUGE dossiers on lots of different options and outcomes. They are a stable Premierleague team now despite being in League One about 10 years ago, and that is in part due to their preparedness. Piss poor preparation leads to piss poor performance.

Management succession is one of the most important aspects of Chairmanship so if Steve Parish is to fulfil his role as Chairman effectively he will already by giving it plenty of thought which makes it a relevant discussion for this forum and anyone who thinks otherwise is simply ridiculous and stupid.

As chairman SP should already have in his mind the next step, love to see Roy stay another season and beyond if he feels fit and well. This is NOT stupid it's good forward planning.

I didn't think it was any more stupid or ridiculous than speculating on our next signing which is harmless fun at the end of the day - thank god other people think its a topic worthy of consideration. Its not intended as any sort of slur on Roy - far from it as i think he is doing an outstanding job but what comes next should be considered.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

I like Chris Wilder - he has done a good job at Sheff Utd although things have been a bit rocky for him lately. Personally I always like the idea of someone who has Palace links but thats just a personal preference.

Sheff Utd have lost 4 of their last 5 games.

John Salako with Wilf Zaha as his assistant to learn the ropes eh??
What is the obsession with some on here that it has to be "A Palace man" to be manager? I'd rather a top professional who wants to win trophies and don't give a flyer where or who they've played for or managed.

i must say i had my doubts about roy when we signed him but still better than than that dutch eejit. i do think at the end of the season roy will be off with a big suitcase full of money , his bonus for keeping us up , and fair play to him if he does , he is 70 years young and lets face it its probably the most stressful job in the league being a palace manager ! i still think we should go all out for the ginger whinger from burnley when or if he does. he is not the most exciting tactfully but he gets points on the board and that whats matters at the end of the season.

oh yeah ,fcuk off brighton.
