A lot of people who have no racist intent have been caught up in it and its left a lot of people being labelled unfairly. That is unfortunate and rhe resentment its caused is understandable, but racists are desperatly looking for some acceptable middle ground to build from and if we let it happen, then they will take liberties and we will end up with the 'monkey noises at a match is just a part of the culture' days again.

Ok, 1984 is a warning on authoritarianism and thought control by a controlling institution. People are re-educated if they suffer 'wrong think'. Who decides on the standard of ‘civilised society’? In Britain it is by judging prevailing social trends. Blackface is offensive to a sizeable minority in the country and is something that, by your own admittance, you and millions of other British people would not do. This to me represents a general social trend against it. I am not advocating some form of social, political or legal control but advocating that people are sensitive to matters which offend a sizeable proportion of society. Understanding and compromise are a part of our society and something we should be proud of.

And the PC Brigade are constantly looking at ways to extend the parameters of what they deem racist in their "Clean sweep". And perhaps what they deem "Fine margins" are at odds with those who would definitely NOT consider themselves as "Racist" in any shape or form. To paraphrase Jez from Peep Show, that would mean everyone sitting on the floor, watching the poker channel, w***ing and eating those nice German biscuits. Not really a basis for society is it? There has to be rules and people do have to be told what to do in some instances. I don’t mind being told what to do when it is offensive to others and modifying my behaviour accordingly. Generally it is for something so minor that it is irrelevant.

Bring back the Black and White Minstrel show!!! Trevor Phillips did an excellent prog on C4 a little while back on PC gone mad very good it was - but golly wogs including their name though trivial on one level are clearly from a time when black people were seen as some exotic novelty - uptight lefties with no sense of humour need to have their pomposity challenged alright, and I realise golly wogs are on one level merely a free sticker on a jar of confectionery but if you can't see how inappropriate they are then you are definitely missing something. If I had a collection of gollywogs I wouldn't be showing them to anybody - black or white.
