Been having feelings of doubt about how appreciated I feel at work, I'm in early, out late & take no longer than twenty minutes for lunch. Since June it's seemed like it all goes un-noticed so have been looking at other jobs.

Today however my boss came to my desk with a generous cash bonus, five bottles of wine and a crate of lager and said "Thank you for everything you have done this year"

I'm not sure wether it's a genuine appreciationl, Christmas spirit or a materialistic hand job as they have noticed I'm not happy.

How's everyone else feeling about their employer at the moment?

Sounds like I’m in the pretty much the same boat as you, except I’ve not had the Xmas cheer you’ve just enjoyed! Was promised a pay review 8 months ago when they wanted me to take on some extra work but I’m still waiting........

Have decided that 2018 will see a change of employment for me. Feel quite a bit happier since making that decision. Just need to find somewhere else to go now!

Quite lucky to get your bonus as cash as most put it through the books and tax you on it. Christmas or not.

Hard to say their motives. Could be a bit of all the above. If you aren't happy i would use the new year new me motto and look for something else

When I was a young girl my Mother said to me.. You listen here kid you're CPFC

It's the fear that the next employer is going to be sh*tter than the current, better the devil thoughts going through my mind at the moment.

I felt like that the last couple of years. This year I took Voluntary Redundancy and am now really enjoying myself in a new role.

I never buy the 'Better the Devil You know' line. One of my former colleagues was like that. He hated it then, stayed, still hates it.

Usually people regret the things they didn't do or wished they'd had the guts to do. Rarely do people regret leaving an employer.

Oh... and I think he kept one of the bottles of wine for himself. Who buys 5 bottles of wine?

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

It was a mix of prosecco, pinot & chardonnay. Our bosses like to give out gifts to the housing developers at Christmas, more bribery than goodwill, they must have ordered too many cases.

You're still in the 'i don't feel appreciated' phase it'll wear off

after a few more years you'll enter the 'don't give a s*** phase'

I've been doing my job for 18 years, i'm now in the sarcastic humour phase

When I worked for a major publishing company in London, I managed to pull a 13 week session of jury service....huge case at the Bailey.. after the case was over, back to work, on the Monday happened to meet the boss in the gents. 'Hello' he said, 'you weren't in last week did you have a nice week off!!!'
So I guess I did feel somewhat unappreciated, as they didnt even notice me being missing for 3 whole months!
I must have been a real asset to the company.....
