Wow! Currencies in free fall. Bitcoin has lost 11% in the space of about 3 hours.

The earlier volatility was difficult to understand and the price was up and down - no it seems to be just down - you'd have to really know what you're doing to buy now - a South Sea crypto-bubble to be avoided in my view!!

Gone up 7% now in last hour.

You say you have to really know what you're doing to buy now, trouble is nobody does know. It's pure speculation with no historical data to help.

Not for the faint hearted

Wait until we have a proper crash.....these currencies won't be strong again until the current financial system is significantly weakened.

Hang on....I'm a complete layman on this stuff....what do I know...Just shooting the breeze.

Hi bud,

Guess I'm just intrigued by crypto.

For a while it became the easiest way to make money I had ever come across.

Came to the party too late to make any huge gains yet still did very well within a short space of time.

Got out at the right time and no longer hold.

TUX and I don't really agree regarding the future of these currencies however we haven't fallen out. Even when disagreeing he's always respectful. TUX believes crypto are the future, I can't quite believe how these currencies became valued at billions within months sometimes. To be fair he does know a lot about this stuff and maybe in time he will be proved correct.

I wouldn't treat them as an investment, more like gambling due to the high volatility. Never buy more than you can afford to lose etc.

I will almost certainly dip back in at some stage but it's trying to predict when it will rise next.

Do some research first and decide whether you want a speculative investment, a digital currency or a mix - maybe start with a researched virtual investment.

This.
As for ''layman'', we all are i guess, but it's more than worth getting your head around it before it goes mainstream imo.
99% of the downward manipulation has been due to those who have most to lose kicking the crap out of this space (as you know bud) but many many institutions have already invested heavily and many many more are waiting to move in, BAKKT being the chosen route but this has been delayed now from December to January (more manipulation??????).

Still a good ti...........

Buy Litecoin.

Some might say that you'd be better off keeping your money in a china pig but i'm better than that bud .

As Chris stated, DO SOME HOMEWORK before you throw your money into anything!

Go here, [Link] , click on any crypto that takes your fancy and on the following page you'll see 'Website' on the left side of the screen. This will take you to that particular cryptos homepage, then read and digest. If you don't fancy that one, try another etc etc.
If you want a punt on a cheap token then 'Theta' is maybe worth a shot.

But, and it's a BIG but, should you invest anything YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO TAKE POSSESSION OF YOUR OWN COINS/TOKENS AND GET THEM OFF THE EXCHANGE INTO YOUR OWN PERSONAL WALLET (Nano-S, Trezor, or even paper). I can't stress enough how important this is. If YOU don't hold it then YOU don't own it (not dissimilar to many shares etc etc).

Happy hunting. Or not.

Edit: The Wall Street Journal reporting that Ohio are poised to be the first state to accept Bitcoin as a tax payment from businesses, individual taxpayers to follow.
