Got to say it - bearing in mind that the budget is likely non-existent and if we can sign Ben up on a reasonable contract i'd like to see him re-signed. I would never have said that earlier in the season. I would like to see what another Manager could do with him.

The Benteke situation is a bit of a conundrum. After three seasons of him earning top wages and contributing next to nothing he has finally rediscovered his goal scoring touch just when we thought we were going to at last get rid of him. Given that we have very few options up top I think we need to keep him, and I never thought I would ever say that.

The choice is £6m/year to renew or £30m plus wages to go to the market and find an alternative, who might be a flop.

If Arsenal or Chelsea suddenly wanted him as their target man, like has been in press recently, although probably paper talk, half the knockers would be calling him Judas for leaving!

Would be absolute madness to offer a contract to such a colossal failure. If his performances have improved due to his contract expiring then this only highlights where his motivation lies, which should be another red flag on top of his proven lack of ability over the last few years.
