It all sounds a bit suspect to me. Presuming her partner is being treated for pain in Egypt, why would you bring them 300 different pain killers, that haven't been prescribed, on the off chance, that a friend had given you? And if he's been prescribed tramadol or another opiate, why would you bring him more? It just also happens to be the fastest growing, and most popular recreational drug in Egypt, and a friend just happened to have 300 to spare (rather than take, given that getting them in the UK, requires a prescription). It sounds like drug dealing 101 to me. Buy them cheap in countries where there is supply is higher than demand and sell them on where demand exceeds supply. Price of Tramadol in Eqypt has soared to 15 EGP per pill which means each pill is worth around six quid (or an extra 1798.00 per trip). She also makes a lot of trips to Egypt. Just because you got caught once, doesn't mean its your first time doing it. And she just happens to not know that Egypt, where her husband lives, is in the middle of a tramadol crisis and coinicdently sources 300 pills for his bad back from 'a friend'. Sounds to me, more likely they had a 'reasonable defence lined up' in case she got busted. Pretty Western Women, with reasonable backgrounds, make very popular drug mules. When I had a total knee replacement earlier this year I was on the,, it did nothing for my pai. I switched to Co-codamol. Worked a treat. Now off them as well.

Her only defence though, is being naive. Its like getting caught with half an ounce of smack at customs - They've got you bang to rights, all you can really do is attempt to mitigate the severity of the charges and length of the sentence.
