Yeah but I don't have influence over what other countries do. I'm a UK voter only now (assuming we do leave the EU) so it doesn't matter to me what China or India do, only what the UK does.

Just because someone is doing something, doesn't make it right.

This is classic denier nonsense. We have massively accelerated a change in the climate and will continue to accelerate it - i.e. it will get worse exponentially - unless we do something to reverse it.

And we can reverse it - and quite quickly - using existing knowledge and technology. It takes only the will to do so. It also takes people like you to stop spreading malicious bulls*** like the above.

And you are an expert?

No one denies that. My point was the Chinese are the worst & even India is moving up the charts as well as your beloved EU.

Both those countries have giant and rapidly expanding populations; you're trying to compare the emissions from a bus with those from a Rolls Royce.

I think I'm right in saying that the U.S. is now the only country not signed on to the Paris Accords. This cements us as Public Enemy #1 when it comes to climate change, and the current administration is pushing to make that worse (although I think economic and consumer pressures will render such efforts impotent).

The U.S. was already on hypocritical ground when it came to influencing emerging economies over emissions, being that it has grown into the world's #1 economy on the back of pumping out greenhouse gases like Johnny Fartpants after Christmas dinner. Our reversal on Paris makes us a pariah with no voice in the debate with such nations. China and India can tell us, completely justifiably, to STFU.

No one is.

We have to view all information with that in mind. It would be wise to remind ourselves that the next ice age will be severe enough to kill off humanity in the Northern hemisphere and that maybe gobal warming might be a good thing in the grand scheme. Who knows?
If we somehow reverse warming, will that save or hamper the human race? Will a colder climate lead to an even bigger population? Too many variables to know. We could end up like Venus but not for a long time. The human race will not outlast the planet whatever the case, unless it goes to other planets.

I am not an expert, but I can listen and I can read. I choose not to listen to Trump - who is ignorant or lying and who you are parroting - and choose to listen to scientists, who disagree on minor details (they always do) but have a 97% consensus of opinion that the climate is changing and that we are causing it. [Link]

If 97 doctors told you that you had cancer, would you listen only to the three who disagreed?

From the way you seem to think that the planet is basically already dead, then I guess not. Excuse me while I do what little I can to aid in the effort to slow, stop and eventually reverse the deadly effects of this warming trend that we're already suffering from.

If you're not going to be part of the solution, that's fine. Just stay the f*** out of the way while the rest of us save your arse for you.

You aren't really addressing my points.
Global warming might well be partly man made but will its effects ultimately be damaging or advantageous?

I'm not sure anyone knows that.

Your points are scientifically incorrect. It is man-made and there is no advantage to it happening. You are being ignorant as to what "warming" means.

It means things like Houston having 2 500-year flood events and one 1000-year flood event in the space of 2 actual years because the heated oceans cause more moisture to be retained in the atmosphere so that when a storm system blows through - itself intensified by the heated oceans - the rainfall is greatly exaggerated.

So forgive me if I have little time for your half-baked, half-heard, half-arsed nonsense that a little warming can't harm us. It's killed people in my city!

I am shocked that you have come out with that nonsense. That is beneath you.

You are thinking short term and with limited information.

Really? Funny how everyone is an expert who can predict the future.

I'd suggest that population is a far bigger problem. With that comes the demand for resources and the waste products that come with it.

Ok Hrolf what's in this new bright dawn with melting ice caps, ecological upset and higher global temperatures you are alluding to? Growing bananas in Surrey? Bring it on.
