I read the club wants €8m and that's what's delaying this getting over the line. Apparently we might pay it, but more likely we'll agree somewhere in the middle.

This suggests we could get him for €3.5m now or for free in the summer

There is a lot of confusion (mainly from journalists) about how much Guaita will cost to bring him in now. I think its more a case of lazy journalism and piecing together various reports it appears the story is as follows:

Guaita and his agent believed he had a clause in his contract that was a release clause for any bid over 4 mill euros.

Palace bid 4,000,001 Euros to trigger it but the club rejects this as they believe this release fee is not part of his contract

Talks go on between Palace and Guaita's agent as there is less than 6 months on his contract and therefore they can talk to the player without the clubs permission to agree a contract that will start in the summer.

At the same time talks between Palace, Getafe and I'd imagine various lawyers etc as to if there is a release clause or not and for how much.

Given in the last few days there is talk of 7 to 8 mill Euro fees it suggests to me that there is not a binding release fee for 4 mill Euros or we do not qualify to trigger it (Such clauses could be triggered by certain events e.g `if relegated` or `bid from a club in European competitions` etc).

Lots of reports Guaita passed a medical at Palace, so it seems to now be a question of do we want to pay 7-8 mill Euros for him now or wait until the summer and get him for free. Pro's and cons both ways.

Wanted to be sure how to pronounce his name, so asked a random Spanish hotel receptionist where I was attending a conference and she said his name is pronounced Bithenta Gooah-ita. Been wandering around the house practising ever since. He'd better bloody join us !!!

Also, collared a Polish chambermaid at the same hotel and Jaroslaw Jach is pronounced Yarrosswav Yak.

Couldn't find any random Swedish member of staff, though.

My polish friend says the surname is pronounced Yach with the "ch" having a hard Dutch emphasis.

Well summarised. A bit of a stand off. I don’t think Palace can risk going the rest of the season with just 2 goalkeepers. So by the weekend Inthink Palace will have to move on and get another gk if this impasse remains.

Latest. Seems like Palace are prepared to splash the cash to resolve this

Pronunciation can vary according to dialect.
For instance If have heard Valencia pronounced with a 'B' ie BAlencia and also of course with a 'V' IE VAlencia.

In terms of vowels, I was once informed by a Spanish chappie that they are pronounced as follows :

A - AH, E - AY, I - EE, O - OH, U - OO

Hence Tenerife is not 'Tener reef' but 'Tay nay reef ay'

I think we could do with John Jackson.
Pronounced “Stonewall” or “Jacko”.

That is the same article that has been going around for a few days.

The only pertinent fact (and we don't know it) is there a precontract agreement. If there is then we will not pay 8 million as we get him for free and it is then upto his current club if they want to agree an early release. His release clause in his current contract means nothing as that contract has 5 months to run and they can't sell elsewhere.

If we don't have a pre-contract then the release clause still has some value as the current club can hold onto player , try to sell elsewhere etc till that contract expires

Bill Glazier displaced Vic Rouse. I don't remember how good he was, but he was a Welsh International (one cap), but then so is someone else we know. Not sure, but I think he might have been our first international player and the first to be chosen from a 4th division team.
