The thought of Damo starting a run of games is pretty terrifying.

Then why pay him?

And gey a cheaper defender if it's a must. 16 million sounds ridiculous when it should be better spend on a striker and right wingback.
Even 10 million for a center back sounds ridiculous when there are so many options. How's that Lamine Kone guy doing at Sunderland? He was a beast, they have financial problems. And dozens more

I would easily swap Benteke for the two Celtic stars. If not at least buy dembele out right. RLC would be considered if he was under £5 mil. He has potential and is young. Something we need in the club. A cb is a must. Amadou. With sakho it would be a perfect pair. I reckon Bart sounds good and cheap but we ought to aim for him and get origi or another gk free.

There are a lot of names being banded around and a lot of press speculation as to transfer targets and I'm sure a lot of us have thoughts on individual targets (I certainly enjoy the speculative game of this time of year). But, with our knowledge that Roy has pretty much said he wants to bring in three, a Goalkeeper, Central Defender and Striker, it seems to me that the amount paid on one transfer affects the others. Which opens up an interesting `game`. Which set of players should we buy? Yes, I know this is overly simplistic and doesn't account for wages etc but we are limited in what we can sort of know, and we can assume wages are roughly proportional to transfer fees. Here is a list of players we have been linked with, with estimated prices. I don't think we can spend the £40 mill we spent this time last year, so I think our budget is more likely to be around £30 mill. So for £30 mill what set of 3 players would you buy?

GK
Bartosz Bialkowski 4 mill
Kevin Trapp 10 mill
Arnold Origi free
Vicente Guita 3.6 mill

CD
Ibrahim Amadou 16 mill
Sebestien De Maio 3.6 mill

ST
Omur Niasse 10 mish
Khouma Babacar 15 mill
Danny Ings 15 mill
Michy Batshuayi 22.5 mill
Karl Toko Etambi 10 mill
Moussa Dembele 20 mill
Leigh Griffiths 10 mill

It actually becomes very hard but for me I think I'd go Vicente Guita GK 3.6 mill, Ibrahim Amadou CD 16mill and Omur Niasse 10 mill = 29.6mill

You have been player FIFA fantasy football/Manager to long fella.

Screw the expense - Griffiths rather than Etambi if I have to choose.

OK, I'll bite to the first troll....
Tosh in what way?
Are you suggesting clubs don't work within a budget or that the prices above are wrong? (Where possible prices were ones reported in the press or where they weren't I used transfermarkt.com...and added a few mill on as that site tends to undervalue players).

Also we can add to the lists now:

CD
Jozo Simunovic 8 mill

ST
Nicolas Gaitan 13.5 mill (Although a winger we have consistently been linked to him in various papers/web sites, I wonder if he could be purchased to play as a striker or the play as a winger and Zaha to predominantly play in a more striker roll)

Wilf doesn't have the finishing in that role. We need a striker with timing who can be in the right place at the right time consistently. Tekkers looks off in that respect but good in the air. Wilf can get into the required positions easily with his skill. The breakdown occurs within the six yard box/penalty area. If we had a striker who could be in that area consistently and not just at set pieces then we may profit.

I agree with you, I was looking at how the much rumored Gaitan signing might work. We save money on another striker by buying a new winger on the cheap. And, before anyone else points it out I'll call myself out on my spelling to roll...should be role (I hang my head in shame!)

I was wondering if we could poach someone like Okazaki from Leicester or Son from Spurs. Second choice strikers that are never going to be no.1 at their current clubs. Both quality. Am I dreaming?

Vicente Guita 3.6 mill
Ibrahim Amadou 15.9 mill
Ihenacho 17.5 mill

37 mill

I'd be very pleased with that, not sure we could afford it though. Or get them for that.

The injuries of last night I think are going to change our plans. Instead of 2 or 3 players We may be looking at 5 or 6.

I would have thought we will look at a GK at about £3 million. A centre back at about £8 million. A winger from lower leagues at £2 million. A defensive midfielder at £3-5 million (possibly 10 if we go for Coquelin). A striker at £10-£15 million. We may also look at getting some rough diamonds from lower leagues other clubs of our sort of size are looking at players around £1 million to give squad depth eg Colchester United attacker Sammie Szmodics.

I also think we may sell or Loan players like KaiKai

Think you might be right, seems the quantity of players may have increased. No real reports of us looking at wingers yet though but more dedicated midfielders have been linked. I've updated the list below. I'd say it's four players out of the below now maybe pushing the budget to 40 mill.

GK
Bartosz Bialkowski 4 mill
Kevin Trapp 10 mill
Arnold Origi free
Vicente Guita 3.6 mill

CD
Ibrahim Amadou 16 mill
Sebestien De Maio 3.6 mill
Jozo Simunovic 8 mill

CM
Francis Coquelin 10 mill
Jack Colback 3 mill

ST
Omur Niasse 10 mill
Khouma Babacar 15 mill
Danny Ings 15 mill
Michy Batshuayi 22.5 mill
Karl Toko Etambi 10 mill
Moussa Dembele 20 mill
Leigh Griffiths 10 mill
Stefano Okaka 10 mill
Kelechi Iheanacho 20 mill
