Since we were promoted the net transfer spends have been roughly.

13/14 = £30m

15/16 = £25m
16/17 = £45m
17/18 = £30m

Last year Parish said we spent our way out of trouble. Wages have increased and we are restricted by FFP limits. So it's difficult to see where the money will come from.

I can't see Hodgson doing the same as Big Sam and Pulis who were rewarded with big contracts elsewhere after they jumped ship from us.

So far Pardew is the only manager to have tried to stick it out with us on our limited budget. Given that money in the summer of 14/15 was spent by Warnock and £40m was spent by big sam in 16/17. He didn't get any credit for sticking around. It shows that managers are much better off cashing in than being loyal.

Good analysis and an intersting point

IMHO Roy is most certainly starting to get parished-off.
He subtly mentions previous agreements in this article and in fact the article is his unloading about being parished.

Parish is doing what he does best (IMHO). He's screwing another manager...

"Hodgson remains more concerned with recruitment matters as he looks to bolster his Palace squad.
"There's still only [Christian] Benteke as a centre-forward," he said of his back-up options afterwards. "Sako is doing a good job up there but he wasn't bought as a centre-forward he was bought as a left winger, apart from that we've got Connor Wickham who arguably won't play this season and a young lad from Margate; Freddie Ladapo. That is not a Premier League bench.
"I'm looking at other teams in the Premier League with four or five who are experienced players on the bench with only one playing and four hoping to get a chance. So to say that there's no problem, you can just carry on with you've got, I think that would be ludicrous."
He added: "I would say if anything the fact that we've done well enough to at least pull ourselves up by our boot straps and away from the execution zone will make the owners even more aware that if we are going to stay there we need the help we've talked about right from the very offset. This isn't something we've just started talking about a week ago, this is something we've been planning since September.
"The owners have been on board from the very first day when I came in and had a chance to analyse the squad and they agreed right from the very beginning that for our squad to be one that we need to survive in the Premier League you can't have two goalkeepers, you need three. You can't have one out-and-out centre-forward, you need four really, you certainly need two. And now of course we've had all the injuries which we weren't counting on."

Of course he is getting concerned at the very least. I imagine he would of hoped for some new arrivals by now. The injuries would only have intensified these feelings. I don't buy this, no one else has bought anyone, all the business is done at the end of the window nonsense. I get all that but we've had all summer to to do this and should have pushed the boat out to get deals done and not scramble about with everyone else. We've got Dougie in place now, whats he been doing? If we keep repeating the same behaviour we will get the same results.

there's no excuse for another last chance saloon transfer window. We know without question that it does not work for us. We know our budget and we know what we need so if we screw this up again it raises serious questions about our club leadership to keep making the same awful mistakes over and over again.

I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't know about, or I sincerely hope there is anyway.

Reading all this conjecture about the transfer window and all the possible targets, I often wonder what this does to the team's morale.Do the players think "Great, there will be more competition for my place" or "Great, the club is getting more ambitious and looking to replace me with someone better" ? It may not be a good time to be shopping around just when the team is beginning to gel, and has fought its way through some difficult times. Cover is thin in some places but we have 8 players recovering from injury (more than most clubs according to Physio Room) and the position will only improve. I'm for waiting for the summer window, but it seems that Roy has other ideas.

It's inconceivable that we haven't got a shortlist for one incoming striker and it's equally inconceivable that Parish will gamble everything on us being able to make it to safety at the end of the season without getting one of them into the club.

Still, it was inconceivable that we'd leave the August transfer window with only one fit striker.....

7 clubs have purchased a player,13 have not.
Our recruitment must be for better players than what is currently available to us.

I hope not, loving Roy!
Not sure where this myth comes from that we don’t spend money and Parish is tight! Over the last 5 seasons we are the fifth highest spenders in the premier league [Link]

That is net spend but hardly Parish’s fault we haven’t sold anyone for 50 million and ffp exists?

He took the role to end his career on a high. His chances if achieving his mission are dramatically improved with better players so he's putting pressure on. It's fine and to be expected from any professional, intelligent manager. It also helps his reputation to highlight this if we do fail after no signings.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

My best mate is a Leicester fan and he is annoyed that they have bought another forward. As he says it's defenders they need as they have 60 million pounds worth of forwards sitting on the bench week after week.
