We got our money back for McCarthy or thereabout, so no harm done really.

Mutch was instrumetal in pre-season every year, so that helped to pay back part of his fee.

Fair point about McCarthy.

I don’t get though that Mutch playing some pre season games helps pay back some of his fee. We paid big money for him to play competitive fixtures, not friendlies. Truly awful buy. Nothing good has come from it and the fact that we can’t shift him on says everything.

Because maybe while he cost a lot he scored 15 leauge goals last season? which probably makes it not as bad as some of these other flops..

I was being rather tongue in cheek about Mutch! I agree with your point that no-one else wants him. A very bad buy that even Roy can’t coach up to scratch.

Jack Hunt cost a couple of million and didn’t he break his ankle before playing a game for us? Loaned to a few clubs and we sold him for pennies to Sheffield Wednesday I think. I know £2 million isn’t a great deal of money by today’s standards, but not sure he ever played a game for us!

I think this is a little unfair on Hunt he broke his ankle as you say and then was loaned out to get fit. ward was playing well and was rumoured to be on fringes of England team. He went to Wednesday on loan if I remember with a right to buy at about 2million so we got our our money back. I would say one of the biggest wastes of money was zeki fryers

Mutch is more of a waste of loot than Fryers. You'll do well to find someone who has resulted in more loot being flushed down the pan.

Has to be Akinbiyi. Not only was he a staggeringly poor player for a vast fee, but his purchase broke up the prolific Clinton/Dougie partnership, and completely wrecked the shape of the side. Awful business. No one comes close IMHO.

Michele Padovano- £1.7 million in mid 1990s money, played a handful of games and always injured. Then had the nerve to come back for supposedly unpaid wages.

I'd put Nick Carle as a runner up. Splurged £1 million in the championship on a player based on a decent 6 months with Bristol City. Never performed for us, and I think we released him on a free in the end

This is either a joke or you are seriously not all there.

17 goals last season for Benteke.

Hennessey may not be the best keeper we have had and has made mistakes, but is one of 2 professional keepers at the club this season and he has been a part of some very important games.

For me Mutch... he was hyped up and has done piss all and is too lazy and greedy to take a cut to go play football and reignite his career.

Nick Carle did perform for us, just very intermittently. He was frustrating to watch because he was better than he played and it was obvious. I’m an Aussie so I was desperate for him to do well especially after the bitter blow of Jordan pulling the plug on the Cahill deal a few years before.
