In response to your question, no unauthorized markings are allowed in this modern day and a caution would be administered if this was to occur.You never see keepers marking their goalmouths any more !

For me Before anyone jumps down my throat over Barron. I know that he was part of the deal where we lost Kenny but he did have a couple of great seasons and was Player Of The Year in 82. He also sat on the England bench a few times when at Rangers. Interesting thing is, although I can’t comment on Jacko joining as before my time, all the others looked dreadful for their first half dozen games or so....including Nige!

OK somewhat off topic, but associated with this. Years ago I began playing as a keeper for local Sunday league team. Real typical Sunday League stuff, leaving a boot in etc. Played an early game against a very reputable local club with a big old fashioned argy bargey centre forward who was a bit of a thug. Corner comes in, everyone goes up I somehow ended up with the ball in my arms and happened to take a step back. What I didn't know was the big brute of a centre forward was on the ground due to the melee of the cross and I, stepping back, stood full force on his face. Quite understandably this caused him quite a lot of pain and a rather messed up nose and a lot of blood so he had to go off. Of course most people hadn't seen what had actually happened and so the belief was I had gone toe to toe with him, as it were, and done this quite deliberately. With such things word spread amongst the league and I had quite a reputation. For years afterwards I found myself coming off my line in one and one situations only for the strikers to `bottle it` and pull our purely due to reputation. And, for the record I'm very ordinary, if not just plain skinny guy. Edited by Mwncisee (26 Jan 2018 4.03pm)

Nigel Martyn Quite often a keeper is only as good as the defence in front of him, I’ve always had Nigel Martyn as my all time number 1, but he did have the benefit of having the superb Andy Thorn and Eric The Ninja in front of him for a time, Jules hasn’t had that luxury and has had some clowns in front of him, but has still single handedly kept us in games and won us points in the past despite the handicap, but then I suppose Nige wasn’t always that lucky either. Paul Hammond made my list simply because he was the keeper when I first started going and when you’re a kid you like everyone

John Humphrey also scored in that match from a rebound. Stuart Magee added a second and The Dons third before the final whistle. You're absolutely right. I've managed to block out the really nasty stuff. I remember escorting a few of our more "intelligent supporters" out of the Arthur Wait and The Croydon Advertiser terrace (Whitehorse) for making really high class remarks. As Pink Floyd once observed, "No dark scarcasm in the classroom..."

I think Martyn just edges it over Jackson on athleticism It was not just us that hold him in high regard Leeds Everton As I stated above, in 1970 when Jackson was in his prime, Ramsey did not even rate hism in his top 6 English goalies (though he was mistaken)
