So when John Bostock made his first team debut at 15 years old did he have to shower separately from the rest of the team??

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Aren't you an adult at 16 in this country? You can join the army and get married and at 17 you can drive. I know for a fact when I was 16 (which was only 10 years ago so I'm not harping back to the Saville era) if I was in a public swimming bath shower with 'adults' I wouldn't of felt shocked or intimidated.

It's a public shower after a sporting event. There has to be an age where everyone can feel comfortable in a public shower, whether they are a young adult, 50 or 90. What are the older men supposed to do in these situations? Ask the naked teenagers in the room if they are 16 or 18?

Doesn't that make it more suspicious, more uncomfortable and seem more sexualised?

There is no biological difference between 16 and 18, you are fully developed and I think like any man would do, at any age in that situation, if someone started staring, or said something inappropropriate or tried to do something physical you'd tell them where to go and knock them on their ****.

There's no suggestion Issott done any of these things so now you're literally talking about 16 year old footballers lining up in a shower washing, with their coach, probably all trying to avoid eye contact.

If he coached the Under 8's then of course even if your intentions were innocent you're an idiot that should be sacked. I don't see how these 16 year old footballers were vulnerable.

Really good question. Taking a shower with a team when there’s no other option available isn’t predatory behaviour in my book, awkward and with the retrospectometer I’m sure he now wishes he’d waited til they’d finished and held up the bus. Society has changed and safeguarding has come on in the 20 years he’s been working for us. With no complaints and no concerns following interviews this has to be a non-event. The media shouldn’t have got hold of his until the investigation reaches a conclusion. He’s not someone in the limelight and his name entering the public eye before the circumstances are fully established just isn’t fair

If he's innocent then he will get off. I know everyone's crying witch-hunt but everyone who's gone down for it so far has gone with a heavy book of evidence so I don't see why people can be upset. An investigation is to determine guilt or innocence.

It's when the papers splash someone's name as a sex offender (Craig Charles for example) and then print a 1cmx1cm apology on page 897239 when it turns out to be bulls*** that angers me.

All this talk of "being able to join the army at 16" and "common sense" is really not the point. There are processes and practices that have to be followed to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young adults. We can argue that these processes are silly or unneecesaary but they are in place for good reasons.

The club is legally obliged and sensible to respond to any potential failures in a sensible and proper way. Someone who has held responsibility in this area for many years must be fully aware of what processes must be followed.

Hopefully, it will be shown that there was no failure or at worst a minor misdemeanour and a warning will be enough.

The head of an academy must be seen to set high standards to ensure that their subordinates also work to the highest standards.

Just because you think a law is silly is not grounds for breaking it without expecting some comeback.

16 years old is the age unless there are different laws in football.
Chaperones etc. are for children up to the age of 16 years old only - not after that age.

You are of course right, I only think the point we are making is that the players concerned are adults and therefore can see why the mistake could have happened.

As a coach at grass roots level I have sat through many Welfare / Safeguarding videos and courses and was always led to believe that up until 18 a player is classed as a minor. whilst you are in charge with these minors you are obliged to behave accordingly and " allegedly " sharing a shower with minors would be a absolute no . You never put yourself in a situation like that , a man with his years of experience should of known that , I very much doubt he got in the shared showers with any other intension of taking a shower but he should of waited till all minors were out , as a club of course they have to react and take what action they deem fit like they would at any level .

In light of what happened over here with Penn State you can't blame the club for following the required protocol. I'm sure it will be all sorted out in due course.

Bloody shame it has to be made so public though.
Probably just a silly error on his part and now the do gooder brigade will be all over it like a rash!

He should've had a whore's wash.

Maybe they should change the rules on venues so that separate facilities for staff have to be available?

Sad fact is that now pragmatically he will be finished, regardless of the facts.

No club will keep any youth manager around with the stain of this, even if found to be innocent. It's like the John Sitton situation after he did that TV show. He applied to every job around, and didnt even get interviews, then phoned up Les Reid at Charlton (who he'd known previously well) and said 'les you know i can do that job and i'm a good coach', to which Reid said, 'sad fact is it doesn't matter, the club have to sell themselves to youth team player's families to attract them. If they ask who's your youth manager, and we say John Sitton, they'll immediately think 'that nutter off the telly' and go elsewhere.

Sad sad stuff, but think his case is way beyond that Sittons. Don't say this to be down on the guy, for what it sounds like it's probably innocuous, but these things stick.
