It is partly cultural, and partly, criticism from both inside and outside the club, driven Dave. I am astounded how unwilling managers in the PL in general are to bring youth through. Now I am from a place where a young debutant is 17 or even 16 so look at it with different eyes but I am certain it is not just football matters.
Does not every club need a few local youngsters and players who care for the club, for the first team to keep a connection with the fans?
The "high money stakes" have distorted the game so much us fans are semi accountants and all we think is buy, buying power and get another mercenary in. It is part of the game of course, but imo has gone way too far.

Wow so much I feel too. Really hope palace keep what we just about still have in this crazy money success now football world.

I'd be gutted if we don't give the next Zaha,Clyne, Hills, Watson, Scannell, Moses, back to Southgate days etc a chance to shine very soon it's been a while now.

There is so much talent in the local area it just takes an opportunity or ten to shine and again we can all be as happy and as excited when Zaha gets the ball.

So many factors can wreck or break a youngster just like Allassini unfortunate injury but I miss having more in the first time.

Such a shame with allassini, he was tipped for a bright future and looked a class act at such a young age. Looks like he is getting up to speed now with his new team however, good luck to him. I miss the days where zaha was first coming through and I remember how gutted I was when cadogan all of a sudden fell off, he was our poster boy for a while

Agreed, we haven't bloodied a youngster all season in Roy's reign. If nothing else, they are super fit, will be desperate to play and even if it is for only half a game I think we will get some benefit from playing them.

And that's what it'd be.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

At least place a youngster or two on the bench, let them get the feel of Premier League. And their energy gets the fans going. Roy, don't be too worried about using the young guns - they won't cost us the game.

The difference in physical build between the young players and the first teamers seems more pronounced than ever and when you look at the injuries we have sustained I can see the risk in putting on the likes of Kirby into the lion's den. I liked the look of Bissaka, but with Ward and TFM in front of him he's not likely to get a look in beyond the odd bench place.

Thats how i see it Wilf is strong and gets knocked about Lumeka would find it hard but still it would be nice to see a few given a chance.

These are my thoughts exactly. They don't have to pull up trees immediately and might find it tough, however if they just defend well when needed to, keep the oppositions full back honest and get some decent crosses in then they will have done a good job.

The problem with young players seems to sometimes be one of physical strength. I watched Lincoln City, who have several physically strong tall players, dominate the Chelsea Under 21 side last night. The division two side dominated for most of the night due to experience and physical strength.
The best players like Man City's Silva can overcome this, but physical power is still something that develops fully later with most players and the physicality of the Premiership is one of its features. For me, Zaha and Bolasie became more effective as they moved into their mid-twenties partly due to them becoming physically stronger.

Not playing for the under 23's today. Chance he could be in the match day squad? We are short on the wings currently, you'd imagine one of these players could get a go to allow benteke to be dropped
