It is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain even a mid-table position. Southampton, Stoke, West Brom were all sides who looked established in the mid-table and are now struggling. So unless we have buckets of money so make a play for the top 6 then I guess we will always be fighting relegation. This season has not been the best for Steve Parish he's made some blunders but I still believe he is the best man for the job. If we stay up he needs to learn lesson, that worries me as I'm not sure he's great at that.

Largely agree Andy but I don't know why you say SP isn't great at learning. FdB was clearly a major screw up which SP admits. That had an obvious knock on effect on our summer hiring. Personally I find it hard to complain about the January window, we did as well as most but it does appear we could have converted the second goalkeeper opportunity had we been better planned.

Not being privvy to Steve's thought processes makes it difficult to form an opinion. The numerous Managers may have stories they'd like to tell.

When Sammy Lee left he had dinner with Ronald Koeman and the latter was quoted afterwards as saying that he was amazed at some of the things that went on although no clues were ever left as to what he was talking about

I personally think Roy will step down this summer. At the very least there is a reasonable chance given his age and the pressures of the job. It would be nice if Parish was ready for that.

Goodness I hope not. Surely one year with a clear run at it would be a great opportunity for Roy.

I honestly don’t think that Roy feels the pressure we all do. Seems very cool, calm and collected. In an article I reward today for he even said that there is no point in panicking as it does no good. Said the time to panic was when he took over and we’re past that that now. He’s an absolute don the man.

I agree with this opinion. Roy is starting to look a little tired.

We could find ourselves needing a manager and a major player recruitment drive given the numbers of players out of contract, holes already in the squad and possible injuries carrying across to next season.

As I said on an earlier thread if we stay up this year next season could very easily be worse than this if we don't prepare for the summer period properly or have the finances.

Of course if we go down this season it may be handy to lose the manager and a number of players off the wage bill and start again.

That's like a Willo comment without as much information! What does it mean?

Koeman was shocked over the behind the scenes stories at Palace Sammy Lee told him about.

What else could it mean?

Its totally wild speculation and typical newspaper crap and tells you nothing, thats what. It's a nothing quote. It doesn't tell you anything about what was said, to who, or about who. It just says he was shocked. It could actually mean anything, FDB was crap? Well we know that. He didn't get on with the players? Well there were lots of rumours on here about that. Couldn't believe Parish got rid of him? We all know the reason for that, even Parish admitted it. Does it also mean that Sammy Lee goes around spreading malicious gossip about 'behind the scenes' stuff at other clubs, well that wouldn't be good for his management career if that is true.

Finally if, as the Mirror is perhaps trying to suggest, that Koeman is disturbed by the turnover of managers at Palace then he should have a little look closer to home at his own career as a manager. 8 clubs and now sacked in 16 seasons is not what I call a manager who should be appalled by the turnover of managers especially when you consider one of his appointments was 4 seasons long.

Now if you think I am completely wrong in my interpretation, then you will have rather answered your own question, as it could mean literally anything, hence my post.

My post was in fact supposed to be pretty lighthearted and a little jibe at Willo's "I know" posts, so why did you feel the need to post on behalf of Midlands Eagle. Are you two a tag team?

Lots of polarised views about whether Parish is a) Mr Bean or b) St George. Heaven forfend that we should go the way of West Brom and throw the baby out with the bathwater (although it's true that thinking Pardew was worth hiring and Sturridge would stay fit are evidence of stupidity of at least the same order as anything we have seen).

The problem is just the wrong people doing the wrong jobs. That's been addressed to some extent by bringing in Freedman to look at recruitment prospects and helping us identify talent that doesn't cost £30m. He's got the right idea with the signings we have made but the ones we should have made are symptomatic of the problem persisting in the area of completing player transfers and contracts. We've persued the right targets, avoided the duds (Diafra Sakho, Sturridge, looks like Tosun might be a dud too based on Allardyce's latest remarks), but failed to turn enough of those targets into signings and that's happened twice now (granted last time one of the targets was the aforementioned Tosun).

FFS Parish just needs to step away from closing the deals and let someone who's good at it do it. And he needs to do that in good time for the next window and make clear that he's doing that because it will only get harder if other clubs see him as a national joke, a reputation which would seriously damage us and which his other work doesn't deserve.

No need to make it into a pogrom.

I tend to agree with a lot in this post ^^^
Parish needs Football business people to advise him and perhaps not so much from ex-Palace players. It seems Steve Parish could do with some well-informed impartial advice on some aspects of running the club.

You don't buy a dog and continue barking yourself, and you also don't surround yourself with 'yes' people.

New stadium/stand plans are a case in point. Did Steve get proper experienced football architects to do the plans ?
Or did he get Andy Johnson to scribble something on the back of a McDonalds box ?
Steve needs a proper set of advisors.

C'mon Steve, sort your 5hlt out.
