I travel up from the south coast and every other weekend, Saturday and Sunday, there is "work on the line" and a replacement bus service between Brighton and Three Bridges which usually adds an hour to my journey. I used to like it when the smell of smoke would waft over the crowd at evening games. There's something about cold night air and cigarette smoke that is magical. Of course, you're not allowed second hand smoke if you're a child any more. They call that 'progress'. Smoking hasn't done me any harm. It's all those wretched stairs that make me breathless. I remember, as a boy, the Bring Out Your Dead man would come along the road on his cart, and he'd give you half a crown for each cadaver. It was a different world back then.
