If the worst happens and we get relegated the obvious loss or revenue circa 50-60 mill and our massive wage bill are going to have to be balanced..

Fortunately we have plenty of players coming to the end of I’m guessing pretty lucrative contracts;

So who do we let go ? and who do we realistically keep if they are willing to resign on reduced wages?. For me ..

Cabaye will return to France .. saving circa 4m
Lee - let go ... Saving 2m
Damo - let go .. Saving 2m
Jules - resign on reduced contact.. Saving 1m ?
Ward - not sure if he will stay .. Saving 2m
Mc Arthur- resign.. no saving
Hennessy- let go .. Saving 2m
Sako - resign on reduced contract Saving 1m

Wilf - sold 40 m and saving 4m wages
Benteke - sold 15-20 if lucky paying Lpool off and saving 4m
Sakho big ? Will we try and move him on ?

Either way if relegated Roy n Ray are going to have their work cut out and I can’t se SP hanging out in St Tropez this summer

Your wage figures are a bit out.

Damo on £40k a week and £2 mil? LOL.

Save £1m on reducing Sakho's wages? He's on £60k. Either you'd have him on £40 or you don't know he's on £60k and £3 mil.

Wilf is on £115k or £120k is it or £6 mil a year.

Benteke is on £130k or £120k and £6mil, not £4 mil.

What pisses me off is it's easier to stay up in the Premier than it is to finish in the top 2 of the Championship.

I think we (and SP) have been spoiled by being fortunate enough to win promotion via playoffs twice in recent memory. The assumption is if we are relegated, we'll be right back up again in a year or two at the most. No problem!

The truth is that if you finish 3-6 in the Championship, and have to win two playoff games, each one is pretty much a coin flip, giving you a 25% chance to go up. Counting on that is crazy, which means you have to shoot for the top two spots. When was the last time we managed to do that when we were in the lower division?

If we go down, and lose Zaha in the process, we're no better or worse than most all the other Championship teams. We could be wallowing in the Championship for years. We will eventually get back up to the Premiership? Yes, probably, based on our long history. Will it be within 5 years? Not necessarily.

My point is, in the Premier, there are 14 teams that aren't rich. It's much easier to put together a team to finish 1-11 out of those 14 teams than it is to finish 1-2 out of all the teams in the Championship.

Being in the Championship isn't the end of the world, but it doesn't seem like SP has shown enough urgency to stay in the Premier.

With the out of contract players and players we would lose how anyone thinks we would have success in the Championship is beyond me. Absolutely spot on. Staying up will be an easier task than trying to win promotion from the championship.

They don't even know the team we'll have or even how much we'll be spending on the team or each position. Blind hope. That's why I want us to be ultra competitive and not chuck this away because 'it's inevitable, going to happen at some point, blah blah blah.'

I don’t claim to know exact figures. This is all back of the fag packet stuff, if Teckers is on 120/30k a week were screwed for the next 3 years.

The point is we’re going to be in 60m Hole that needs to be filled , look where Sunderland and to a point Hull are heading..

I think we'll be alright financially with sales and wages saved but how strong our team would be going by the numbers leaving is pure guesswork.

Can't be bothered to read this thread but I'd say that it is a pity that the chairman didn't prepare better for this season since he is keen on being prepared.
As usual, our transfer dealings were totally inadequate as anyone with half a brain could have told him with no hindsight whatsoever. I have said for every season we have been in the PL that our transfer policy would see us relegated and sadly this could be the season.

If we went down we'd likely lose the players that make us a good team and be left with the ones that are pretty average. Even players like McArthur and Luka would likely go, in addition to Zaha, Cabaye, Sakho and Tomkins. Nevertheless, if we got relegated and Roy stayed then personally I think we would be ok and would probably at least make the play-offs, as his game is all about organisation and team work, which is what the Championship is all about and Sorloth would probably get at least 20 goals at that level given his height and strength.

Whether we stay up or go down we need to reassess the squad though, as there is an over reliance on Zaha for creativity and we also need someone who can take decent set pieces. Also, if our youngsters aren't good enough, then we need to bring in ones who we can develop (which I think is the case with Jach), rather than signing back-up players in their late 20s/30s who are unlikely to get better and who command bigger wages.

I like the fact your prediction is based on some logic compared to those that are just hopeful, but it does concern me that these predictions, and some of them very confident, are made when so many players are likely to go, we'd have nearly a completely new team and no idea they will be. You could actually pick a whole team of departures.

Hennessy.

Mensah/ maybe Ward.
Sakho
Tomkins
PVA

Zaha
Cabaye
Luka
Townsend
Jimmy?

Benteke- if anyone will take him but if not he could score in the championship, you'd hope, at a huge cost.

Sadly, if we played against Wolves next week , they would tear us apart like a rabbit.

Possibly, but can't say they are an "average top championship" team can you. Comparatively they are totally in the moneys buying players from European top teams
