It deserves facetiousness but sadly religion is all too serious in many places.

Not a bit funny for them.

You don't need to explain to me the seriousness of religion and all those who have suffered - are suffering from its influence to this day.

Facetiousness, should be used I agree in the fullest.

Sometimes, its better to stop flogging that dead horse though

You seem to think that religious belief and lack of it are equal. They aren't. Faith is akin to a mental illness. Only someone with issues reads a 2000 year old book of allegorical tales and reimagined history and believes it as an absolute truth.

It's not your belief that bothers me, it's the fact that people like you will pass this kind of twaddle on to their kids, like my sister in law who sends her children to confession, the stupid cow.

You have absolutely no idea what I am passing on to my kids (indeed, you've shown no understanding of what I believe, despite having been told many times). And what's more, how I bring up my kids is absolutely none of your f***ing business.

A little defensive aren't we? You aren't very good with the subtlety of the English language. I never said anything about your kids. Don't play the victim, it's boring.
I make no apology for saying that passing on religious mumbo jumbo to children is shameful.

No, I only had responsibility for my own kids and they are both adults now with a good set of principles and not remotely religious.
They are far less horrible than me.

Don't worry; what you were trying to do with that choice of wording is extremely clear.

The aspect of criticising the religious for passing on their myths to their children is a tricky one.

Parents have responsibility for their children. Some parents are better than others with this in my view. For example, there will be plenty of Jews who think they are correct to cut the foreskin off of their male children.

I object to that, but it's currently supported by the state, despite the hypocrisy inherent within with them banning the female version.

I'll teach my lads about the judo-christian tradition....it's apart of their cultural heritage as English children. Within the tradition there are many good lessons and no well rounded knowledge of our culture and history can be attended without it.

I won't however be teaching them to actually believe in the 'personal god' stuff. I think parents today who do that are as misguided as those of the past.

There was this Christian who fell in the ocean and couldn't swim. When a boat came by, the captain yelled, "Do you need help, sir?" The christian calmly said "No, God will save me." A little later, another boat came by and a fisherman asked, "Hey, do you need help?" The christian replied again, "No God will save me." Eventually the Christian drowned & went to heaven. He asked God, "Why didn't you save me?" God replied, "Fool, I sent you two boats!"

Passing on superstitious tripe to your kids is appalling.
How much clearer can I be?
Imparting a moral code and a bit of wisdom is a different matter. That requires no God, no disciples, no Devil, no fearmongering, no worship, no dogma, no veil, no confessions, no miracles, no preachers and no collection boxes.

Like I said, despite several pages of thread you evidently have zero idea what I've been talking about.

I gurss it's hard to separate faith from organised religion if you've no experience of the former and only been exposed to bad examples (which is probably most of them) of the latter. I actually agree with you about teaching morals and would say that on about 50% of those items you're right to regard them as counterproductive, but you're so blinded by your hate that you can't even see that.

Anyway, Hrolf, I'm hanging up on you now in case you spontaneously combust.

Why is it that when you tell the truth about something you are a 'hater'? Strange that.

I see personal blind faith and organised religion as equally daft but I assure that I won't explode as a result. Thanks for your concern.
