It can't be more plain that the Earth wasn't created for humans.....we were lucky enough to evolve.

Then a cleric class writes a book a few thousand years ago.....one of many religious books written all over the world.....then it gets added to, as you'd expect.

Apparently God loves us....but he can't even to bothered to tell us to wash our hands to stop the easy transmission of disease and lots of other easy tips like cleaning your water supply.....but hey....he's big on your sex life and how often you pray.....for some reason God needs constant reassurance that we like him.......when in reality it was the cleric class who needed it.

It really would be better if more of us wanted to think logically about the universe and nature and how religion came about instead of wanting to follow simplistic nonsensical explanations about some unseen unprovable entity.

Many religions invoke processes like praying or meditation and so do a lot of secular philosophies. It isn't about phoning up God and asking for stuff. It orders your thoughts, purges ypur mind of s***e and helps you be positive and think constructively. It's been shown that that is beneficial whether done in the context of religion or not. Prayer in Christian religion just places that process into a religious context, it doesn't change it fundamentally. Obviously it predates Christianity by many thousands of years.

It's interesting that virtually all cultures have discovered the importance of making time for our spiritual welfare independently.

What matters is truth.

Telling children that they were born in sin and that they will be tortured in hell for ever more if they don't believe in A, B, C is not to their benefit.

You don't need to follow a religion to appreciate beauty in the world.

Whatever mental welfare you talk about, the telling of fairy tales to make people feel better does not come under the heading of beneficial to me.

Original sin is part of the mind conttol posing as Christianity that I was talking about. It's twisted nonsense and one of the reasons that those who hope I will become Catholic are onto plums.

Mmmm....but weren't you saying what was and wasn't Christianity earlier in the thread.

Original sin is apart of both the Catholic and Protestant traditions.

Are you pick and mixing your Christianity?

Blimey who died and made you God.

You are contradicting everything the Bible says.
Original sin is part of the doctrine, anybody who in your mind hates, teaches/preaches, this twisted nonsense is wrong, and not a true Christian.

Only your version is the way forward.

Religion was invented to control.

Yes.

I don't think we should blindly believe what churches tell us to because of all the crap we've been talking about. Churches are run by people and not all of those people are good. That doesn't invalidate the teachings of Jesus.

Never trust anyone who believes in a talking snake, that the Earth is only 7000 years old, and literally any old bollocks you read in the bible, Koran, Torah, Vedas, or even the Tipitaka.

Religion is for the weak of mind, who are so desperate to believe life gets better when your dead, they will follow any old crap to give them hope.

There's more chance that were all related to some horny ET than all made in gods own image,, hang on there's a thought maybe God is an alien. I'm starting a cult anyone want to join in, joining costs are 5 grand each cheques payable to "taking the piss out of gullible mugs Ltd"

Ta.

I don't think we're that far apart, are we? Religion is used to control and enslave and using it in that way is wrong. Take that away and you're left with your own faith, whatever that may be; and faith in God or in Man is personal to each of us and is deserving of respect.

I wouldn't try to force anyone to my faith but will talk about it openly if asked and will defend my right to hold it - as I would defend yours, provided you respect mine.

I think I mentioned before in some other thread each to their own CF.

I respect lots of things, but I think you already know that

And if you can't defend your beliefs, what can you defend?

Good note to say hasta luego.

Religion is simply indoctrination. It is totally unnecessary in this age of scientific enlightenment.
You really have to be simple minded to believe in the omnipotent God of the scriptures, however much nonsense you have been fed.
