Certainly not, obviously hit a nerve, eh? If so, mission accomplished, hopefully people will spell the names of the Palace team correctly if they are true supporters and truly interested in the club.

You didn't hit a nerve with me friend.
This is not an English language class but a forum for like minded people.
If someone has a problem spelling a word, so what?
I happen to have an excellent grasp of our language but do notfell it necessary to belittle people who do not

It's not spelling a word that's the issue. It's spelling someone's name and spelling it correctly isn't very difficult at all for most people. You can even copy and paste from the home page of this website, so you don't even have to spell it at all.

An argument about spelling, how interesting.

Yep I placed a bet on Palace to go down at 12-1, so what? Like most people I will lose the bet, so I'll still be very happy as I have done for each and every of the last 5 seasons.

If you were smart you'd have made a lot each season as per my other post.

Calvin Andrews. Ha ha.

Should start a thread of the players' names misspelt the most. And the predictive text on iPhone is in American English.

Spelling names correctly is just a matter of respect. I get annoyed with businesses that spell my name wrongly despite being corrected to the point where I don't buy from them. If they get my name wrong, what else will they f*** up? The following are all misspellings I've seen on here:

McArthur not McCarthur and not MacArthur either
Tomkins not Tompkins
Hennessey with two 'n's and two 's's
Mamadou Sakho with an 'h'
Bakary Sako without an 'h'
Riedewald not Reidewald
Wickham not Whickham or Whickam
Benteke with one 'k' not two

That said of course this is a web forum with a web forum's interface and people with fingers like Cumberland sausages are using it on a tiny phone with a window the size of a postage stamp.

Rule one of the forum rules for the site:

'This message board is for intelligent debate. Semi-literate postings lower the tone of the board and irritate everyone else.'

I agree that it's perfectly valid to moan about other people's poor English skills. Those who think they can inflict their awful English on public forums without any negative comment at all are living in 'snowflake' land.

I'm careful not to mention simple misspellings as everyone makes them and mistakes in grammar are also commonplace and can reach a point that is pedantic to complain about.

However, those who criticise those asking for a minimum standard like capital letters at the start of sentences or obviously lazy posts with multiple spelling mistakes can suck my boiled eggs. They are the kind of person who has created the problem in the first place with their overly relaxed attitude. This isn't a forum for children.

Not everyone is great at English and that's fine, they aren't required to be. However, care over what they post is at least semi required.

If someone is genuinely dyslexic that is a mitigating circumstance. However, that's only ever a low percentage of people and far more common is the reality that a person has lazy English skills.

Well ok, have your poor English skills but also don't expect that no one, on a public forum, is going to comment on it.

Ironic about you posting about snowflakes and being triggered all the time and this is your response to spelling mistakes.

Stirling, you should have a look on Facebook comments. Fackin hell. A free education wasn't worth bothering with to many it seems.

Funny when someone pulls an idiot up on it before his spelling makes him one.
