Yes, it would be nice to watch it again and again if we had won , i stil watch the pre match bit, abide with me, tiny templah with the girl in the crowd dancing, the palace display, then taped over the rest!

Agree.....took the whole family to see the game. The Palace fans were AMAZING. If you were there two years ago, you know exactly what I mean! We were all like one BIG family. The HF display was unbelievable. When Punch scored, I nearly cried and everyone around us were High fiving complete strangers.

Then when they scored...it was like all my blood had been sucked away...awful...

Yep. The Cup Final replay was the worst for me. I was resigned to losing the recent one so it didn't hurt that much. Losing to Southampton in the '76 semi was also awful.
The Charlton game when we went down has to be up there as well.

The 76 semi was that the one where Brian McClair went in very late on Nige breaking his arm and the ref forced Nige to kick the ball out before he could be seen to? Oh and one of our fans was killed on the way to the game?
But for me it was the play off semi 2005, we were off to our holidays that day and AJ was dragged back by their defender and booked, we fell apart and lost 3-0.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Nigel Martin was the 1995 semi at villa park.

The 1976 semi was at Stamford Bridge.

We were poor in that 2005 play off 1st leg semi at Selhurst v Watford and that little kid called Ashley Young done us in a shirt the size of a tent. Disbelief, near silence in the pubs after.

I've not old enough to remember too many of these games, and although we had season tickets during the 04/05 season, I can't really remember how it felt to be relegated. Was gutted by the 2016 FA Cup final - to be ahead so late, then get hit with an equaliser; then for Utd to go down to 10, and win it anyway... Clattenburg not playing that advantage...

9-0 Vs Liverpool in 1989.
Half my school year supported Liverpool at that time and about 30% Palace.
It was humiliating but fortunately the Villa Park FA Cup Semi came later that season :-)
That season encapsulated being a Palace fan in a a nut shell.

The 1-2 against Liverpool two seasons ago after going ahead with Benteke diving at the very end. It was during that barren Pardew run in our Cup final season. Damo 'fouls' Benteke who steps up and slots it with the last kick of the game. Only time I've ever tried to leave early because I was just so gutted when the ref blew for the pen. Couldn't get out cos the aisle was blocked so watched it. Christian showed more calm with that spot kick than he has in his entire Palace career.

Bit of a weird one given we stayed up but it was a truly miserable feeling. The HOL went beserk afterwards so I think it's a justified choice. Obviously the cup final and a 3-0 away vs Brighton in a deluge were pretty bad too.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

Until I looked at these, I would have said league games were more important to me, but it's true the two Cup Final defeats hurt as much as any. I was in Argos recently, and spotted they had Palace playing on a screen in their T.V department; I then realised it was as Man Utd equalised in our last Cup Final appearance and the memory of how I felt as Punch scored and the sense of loss as they equalised and were then bound to beat us came flooding back. In our present depressed and concerned state, is this thread good for our mental health?

2/10/73 Palace 1 Blackpool 2. Spoilt my 13th birthday, leading 1 nil in injury time...

3/04/76 Losing 2 nil to Southampton in FA semi-final

26/12/79 Losing 3 nil to the weed in the pouring rain.

17/5/90 Losing 1 nil in Cup final replay

21/05/16 Losing 2-1 in the cup final

I think the replay in '90 is still the only game that's left me in tears - still not sure why, possibly the fact that they did so well in the first game, should've won, then failed to turn up for the replay, or maybe even the fact that the entire Palace end remained singing "we're proud of you". Kind of summed up being Palace for me.

My memory of that reply (and I have seen nothing of it since) was that we tried to play a spoiling game in the style of Wimbledon, trying to rough up United. It was a poor spectacle and we rather got what we deserved.

Yes, that's the way it was. I was there. I was uncomfortable about it at the time and embarrassed about it subsequently. It soured the memory of our heroic performance in the drawn final. Obviously a deliberate ploy. Steve Coppell is my hero, but he got the game plan wrong on that occasion.
