I am sorry to say something against someone who has done great things for the club under really hard circumstances, but if Zaha misses more game time, its on Hodgson.

Now I understand goal difference is a factor, and maybe if they scored a late one we might want a third on the break to settle it. I also understand that in Wilf we have a ball carrier which helps you get out of constant defending and get up the pitch.

However, Huddersfield were awful, all day. We totally dominated them and they had 2 lame shots on target the whole game.

It seems so crazy to me that having already been fouled a lot in the game, that RH didnt make the decision to take the guy off.

Its like Hodgson thinks making tactical substitutions except when forced by injury is somehow admitting some kind of fault.

I cannot understand leaving Zaha out there in that game, and if he is crocked (I hope and expect he will be ok for Liverpool given the time off now) then Hodgson has to look in the mirror and take accountability for that bizarre decision to leave him on late in that game.

Agree 100%. As soon as we scored our second you could tell they just wanted to hurt him out of spite / frustration. Should have been hooked then and there. Hodgson and his lack of subbing is infuriating, especially when you have a player who as absolutely vital to our staying up as Zaha

Advertiser reporting he will be fit for Liverpool. But I agree, why risk it if you're 2-0 up and cruising.

It is unbearable that the Croydon Advertiser can blithely state this, without saying how it knows what it knows. I'm sad to say that don't trust the Adder enough to believe it has this on good-enough authority.

It's all very well to say this with the benefit of hindsight but there were 22 minutes plus injury time left when the second goal went in. We've all seen games involving Palace change very quickly, sometimes to our benefit and sometimes not. If Roy had taken him off and they had got a quick goal, they would have had twenty minutes plus injury time to have a good go at an equalizer and maybe even more. The momentum can change in games very quickly. We may have seemed to be cruising but a game is never safe at 2-0.

Imagine the outcry on here if he had taken Wilf off and the game had turned around.

Roy took Wilf off late in the game Newcastle away at 0-0 and we lost to a late goal and he took a lot of flak on here for the substitution.

As I say, easy to say these things with hindsight.

Have to agree, as much as I love Roy, he should have been hooked a lot earlier.

It's become an annoying trait of Hodgson that he seems to forget he can use subs, and now the one player keeping us from relegation gets injured again as a result.

Really irritating.

This place is pant-wetters central.

It's good he is not playing for Ivory Coast. Reports all seemed to suggest that this was a knock and/or he is doing a Giggs-esque bunking off. I imagine he will be fit for Liverpool, which is 9 days away. The Advertiser said this pretty straightforwardly. Most Palace fans are happy he isn't playing for Ivory Coast and risking a more serious injury. Their game is only in France so he didn't have to travel a long way. If it was a competitive game, they probably would have played him I reckon.

Next game is Liverpool. If he is in any way not fully recovered from the knock we should rest him. Can only be a very slim chance that we will get anything from Liverpool the way our respective seasons have been going. Not worth it if Wilf is at risk.

The thing that troubles me, Badger, is that according to the Evening Standard he had traveled to be with the Ivory Coast squad. That doesn't have the hallmarks of a Ryan Giggs-style bunking-off-duty situation. Giggs would just phone in sick as soon as he came off the pitch for Man U.

As for those who say Wilf should have been hooked earlier, yes. He should have been hooked the second the second went in. It would also have given Loftus-Cheek more time to get match fit.

I think that unless it's an obvious serious injury the player is required to turn up and be assessed by the national team doctor. So probably nothing to see here other than Zaha complying with international rules.
There's no way we could've taken him off as soon as the second went in, there would've been about 25 minutes left. Maybe we could have done it 5 minutes earlier but that would've been about it without a third goal.

RLC needed game time Wilf needed protecting RH 100% should have taken him off shortly after the second goal, he subbed Tomkins with cramp v Spurs that could have cost us a point no subs to waste time/slow them down v UTD poor decisions he has done well but not in the use of subs.

We haven't had the strength in depth. We could have protected Zaha by not playing him but then again we may not have got the 3pts. I trust Roy on this and I am convinced both Zaha's and Sorloth's injuries aren't very serious and both will be available v Liverpool.

100% agree, I didnt like it when he brought zaha on against chelsea why risk it, but not subbing him against hudders was bonkers.

Not playing a fit Wilf would be foolish in a must win/not lose game not subbing him was a mistake Subbing Tomkins v spurs not wasting time v UTD also mistakes, no doubting RH he has done a very good job.
