He can only 'go non-dom' if he is paid off shore. Don't see how that could be done legally when he is working in the UK, other than perhaps for image rights in France or similar. If it could, in any case he could not then repatriate any of the funds to the UK without paying tax.

The Daily Mail article sounds a bit bizarre, that it was a Palace admin error. I suspect they know how to deal with incoming expats. In any case it seems CPFC are happy enough to just swallow that one as Pape digs himself out of the issue.

I wonder if he went into voluntary liquidation in the UK but still has significant cash in France or somewhere else.

... with one exception. Andrei Arshavin. When he joined Arsenal his agent made a mistake and thought he negotiated an increase of salary over his former club Zenit Saint Petersburg but failed to stipulate the usual tax arrangements which meant he was actually on less money than at Zenit.

The agent tried and failed to renegotiate the deal once he was an Arsenal player.

That's why all the talk in Spain, Germany and the UK about players paying more tax is a fruitless one because if the income tax rate rose the clubs have to pay more the player doesn't pay a penny!

Some players even insist on being paid in foreign currencies to protect their income.

Well, if he were paid a net amount then it would seem strange that he went into voluntary liquidation to pay HMRC. Surely it would be CPFC's responsibility.

If his image rights are part of the screw up and he's taken pay that is image right related, then that pay is liable for tax and NI.

The report in the Daily Mail doesn't say anything of the sort.

There is no chance we're paying Benteke about £250k a week. Sako £130k? Do you really think they are paid that?

Well, funny headline then

''Palace were responsible for the embarrassing error that meant the defender had been receiving his pay without tax and National Insurance taken off.''

Possibly not if he was paid for image rights as a result of his image in France and he didn't remit any of the money to the UK. The deal would not necessarily have been with CPFC.

And by the way, he wouldn't necessarily be paying full UK NIC. It depends where his centre of vital interests lies. Probably he is settled in the UK though.

If, and I can't believe they were so incompetent on a simple issue,CPFC have screwed up in their handling his salary and payments with correct deductions then the back office needs a review and change. Let's hope it's not the case

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

In which case he was receiving PAYE income believing tax and ni had been deducted.

the S80 notice would be sent to the employer. HMRC lost a case on transfer to individual about 2 1/2 years ago, so is likely more to this.

Below is the link that I posted:

If you're referencing a different report it's probably a good idea to put a link to it as well as your comment; we're not psychic.

As he's already made arrangements to pay the outstanding tax there's no case to lose (or win).

It's more the case sets precedent.

Very basic but final paragraph

It's an IVA he's gone for. You don't normally dive straight into that and HMRC enquiries are not known for speed.
