No respite for Pape here, he is as guilty as Russia and with about as much evidence.

Does anybody actually know what his situation is, how, does he discuss his affairs with you ?

What crime have you already decided he is guilty of, not clever financially ?

Big deal.

This...

I don't know what Pape's financial situation is, I was surprised when this story came out but whatever it is, I hope it works out well for him.

What a cr@p couple of years he is having. Broken thigh in a crash and cash problems.

Chin up Pape..

There is no payment to the "claimant". Soure was charged with dangerous driving, but because he failed to enter a plea, the case is not set down to be heard until July 16 this year. The driver of the other vehicle was also charged with driving without due care and attention and has subsequently started a private prosecution against Soure which his lawyers are going to make dismissal and abuse of process applications before the trial date. Nothing has been decided in any of these cases as yet:

Soure's financial problems are almost certainly related to a tax avoidance scheme that's gone wrong. Quite frankly, why should the super-rich avoid paying tax when the rest of us have to.

Why is the other person bringing a private prosecution if there is no claim being brought? (I've read the story you linked to, but it doesn't say).

He's not.

It was reported in November that the left-back faced a prosecution brought by Darshan Dube, who was charged by police with driving without due care and attention, following the incident in 2016.

Souare, who returned to first-team action after a year out, was a prosecution witness in that case.

He is no longer facing a private prosecution.

I read that Pape had a giant tax bill as a result of Palace administration !!

Not collecting the required amounts of tax and NI.

He is on the bench and selected for his country, doesn't look unsettled so let us hope for a right future for him.

The dates don't match.

Good question seeing as he will be on PAYE and have tax deducted at source.
Any other earnings may be due tax, I can only assume he has a large image rights contract, or another business, IF it is tax related.

If he's really on a PAYE scheme, then he may have been reduced to £92 per week Statutory Sick Pay for the first 28 weeks of his unavailability to play after the accident - that would answer a lot of questions as to how and why this happened to him.

.....and in reality, I can't actually see the club keeping him on full pay for such a long term absence which also carried a real possibility of not being able to return to top level football.

Good point. I just hope it works out well for all concerned

Firstly, all players have to be on PAYE as it's legally required and secondly I can't believe that any player would go onto SSP as full pay during sickness would be in their contracts

I agree. Wonder if there are e.g. image rights that are out with the contract.

His problem is reportedly his being unable to pay a tax bill and his major creditor as the Inland Revenue. The reason he owes tax has not been revealed. Incidentally, the private prosecution relating to the car accident is not now being proceeded with (the original report has been updated).

As far as I'm aware all player salaries are after tax. So if Souare is on £30k a week the tax would be on top of that. This means a player is protected from any tax rate increases...

... with one exception. Andrei Arshavin. When he joined Arsenal his agent made a mistake and thought he negotiated an increase of salary over his former club Zenit Saint Petersburg but failed to stipulate the usual tax arrangements which meant he was actually on less money than at Zenit.

The agent tried and failed to renegotiate the deal once he was an Arsenal player.

That's why all the talk in Spain, Germany and the UK about players paying more tax is a fruitless one because if the income tax rate rose the clubs have to pay more the player doesn't pay a penny!

Some players even insist on being paid in foreign currencies to protect their income.
