I agree. No harm in benching him given his non-existent confidence (and goal-scoring ability)

The only problem with Benteke out is that we will have to change tactics. We have not been playing out from the back as much. We are not a team that responds well to opposition pressing when we play across the middle. Interestingly against Chelsea Sorloth hardly won anything in the air but still caused enough problems that our midfield picked up the loose ball. I would be concerned that Bournemouth would press us really hard and we would not have a long ball out to stretch the play. The good news our midfielders are likely to see a lot more of the ball and we will get more sense of their quality.

I posted yesterday that I would have dropped him for Saturday anyway.
Wilf and Andros with RLC behind them

I had a lot of sympathy for his confidence issues, but now I'm wondering what he's actually doing about it. Personally, if I was in his situation, I would stay for extra training, just smashing shots into a goal, getting some instinct back, asking for help from coaches, asking for help from players. Small victories etc. He's looking so laborious, and over-thinking things, playing with dread. I just suspect he's not doing anything, and existing in this self absorbed world of repeat failure.

Those two shots were pitiful, and lacked any genuine expectation that he was going to score. I would be genuinely interested in what he is actually doing to change this season. March has become april, April becomes may. Before he knows it it's next season. When is this s*** going to end? There's not going to be a magical change in fortune without some kind of action beforehand.

I am in favour of going 442 as we have no authentic striker but do we have enough midfielders to go 442?
McArthur, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Cabaye? We are down to the bones again.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

This is where Roy will earn his wages. I imagine he'll go for the Wilf and Andros duo but the midfield will be interesting. Perhaps a diamond when attacking with RLC behind the strikers, maybe pushing up when they spilt into the space centrally and Cabaye and Macca behind him doing the box to box stuff with Luka holding? If we go for the flat 4-4-2 it'd mean Macca on the right (Wilf and RLC on the left works well) and that's not ideal tbh, he is no wide midfielder

I believe Roy have been doing this from day one.

And RLC - so RLC, McArthur, Milo and Cabaye across the middle wouldn't be so bad.

This is what i've noticed when Benteke doesn't play. We don't win headers from long clearances. Neither Sako or Zaha playing up there could do that and i do think it's a weakness. Maybe its something Loftus-Cheek can do, otherwise, its a different approach i think.

Our passing's generally good, hopefully we can concentrate on shorter distance passes working it up the field. Often when the ball's hoisted high into the oppo's half we give it back to them anyway so we prob won't do any worse by trying this. Work it through the middle more & we could see results esp with overlapping PVA & W-B on the wings.
