If they have just put him into the general prison population where there are over 15 percent of Muslims....I'm speechless.

That would be so stupid as to give thought to complicity.

Lovely stuff.

the stigma is amazing...a prisoner can beat his wife to a inch of her life & be fine on a normal prison wing.

for some reason, prisoners have this moral compass [sic] that means it is fine to beat your partner within an inch of their life, but a sexual offence is the work of the devil...its a way of justifiying your offence.

in my eyes, an offence is & offence but prisoners need to have some moral high ground to hold onto

Not just prisoners. It's a universal trait.

I completely disagree with you. Even if you are a prisoner the state has a responsibility to keep you out of harm's way if that harm is obvious in advance.

This was very predictable.

Also people are breaking the law every day and have multiple anti social crime reps and they don't go to prison.

This crime was non violent, it was deserving of community service and a fine, not prison time.

Let's put it like this, if my view held sway it's very likely there would be one less dead man. (unless his death was unconnected to being inside)

i dont actually disagree with your sentiments about a man is dead, his family have to deal with that, but this is the process.

he goes from court to his local prison, when he is booked into the prison he is asked if he needs to move onto a VP wing/regeime...they dont make anybody go onto that wing, unless its a very, very high profile crime, ala huntley etc.

he wouldav chosen not to go onto the protected wing due to the stigma attached to that. normal wings are full of woman beaters/racists/sex offenders/terrorists who are universally disliked by prisoners.

i would argue that anybody whose train of thought seems it a good idea to rub bacon over the door handles of a mosque, and leave bacon outside should be taken off the streets, especially as hes got previous convictions & obviously hasnt learnt his lesson.

What lesson? That he was punished entirely disproportionately for what he did? Dear God, if you start thinking that islam gets some kind of free pass when it comes to ridiculing religion (and Christianity seems to be fair game for that), there really is no hope and this country really is well and truly f*cked.

So has he learnt his lesson now mate? Eh...

I regard your statements here as supporting negligence.

It's painfully obvious that placing a man who has insulted a religion into a system where over 15 percent of the population are criminal Muslims is negligence.

It is playing 'risk' with someone's life and If the system is set up to overtly allow that when the risk is obvious then it to is negligent......How it's obvious with Huntley but not this guy.....obviously Muslims are going to get the nod from someone.

This man deserved consequence for his action...but it was non violent and obviously sending him to jail was taking chances with his life.

No, he didn’t. If you adopt that line, you might just as well imprison the Monty Python mob for Life of Brian which was significantly more offensive to Christianity than anything this guy did. His conviction was kow-towing to islam. Nothing more and nothing less.

Quite right.

Pandering to religion is possibly the most foolish act anyone can be guilty of.
The right to believe any old crap that you like cannot influence law. Law has to be there to protect us from our own stupidity, not encourage it.

Defacing a place of religion.....even one I have zero time for and know is a real problem.....it's out of order and I don't accept that it can be done without consequence.

It's the wrong way to go about things.

Putting a bit of bacon on a door handle is ‘defacing’ it? Come on, fella. This is bollocks and you of all people know it.

Pork is banned in that religion, of course it is defacing it.

I am probably amongst the harshest critics of this religion and especially of the cover afforded to it. But my view that places of religion should not be interfered with is the same for all religions.

If he had expressed his opinion and not interfered with the building I'd have agreed with you.

He should definitely not have gone to prison by any means but it wasn't ok. Deluded or not people have the right to worship their god(s) without worrying about this kind of thing.

We just have to differ on this.

The seriousness of the offence was judged based on the religious belief. That can't be right. A piece of bacon is a piece of bacon. The fact that a religion attaches significance to it should not affect English Law.
I am also certain that a similar judgement would not have been made if the 'victims' had been Christian.

Intent must surely be taken into account - if he's accidentally dropped a rasher of bacon, no charge (except maybe littering), but to go out of his way to offend people, surely that's at least likely to cause disorder? There's no law against having a dump, but if you do it on my doorstep, I'm likely to get quite upset!
