I think they are both very good players that will only get better with game time experience.

I would assume TFM will be going back to his home team at end of the season whatever happens to us so I'd rather Wan B was gaining that experience as we benefit in the long run and not Manure.

In the final analysis, at this critical time of the season, Hodgson will pick whom he believes is the best person for the right-back role and not give any considerations with regard to the 'Bigger picture'.

Yes I agree, however at this crucial time in our fight against relegation we cannot afford costly mistakes.

Baptism of fire for young Wan-Bissaka being thrust into a relegation battle and it is challenge for him technically, physically and mentally.

He has played against some good teams in recent weeks, I would give him the nod over Ward at the moment, just my opinion....

It's nice to see a Palace player making some costly mistakes without being slaughtered on here (although I would prefer that he did not make the mistakes at all).

Having seen Wan-Bissaka play now, I think we made a mistake bringing Fosu-Mensah in at all. That loan signing could have been used for good effect to bring in someone else. Imagine how much Wan-Bissaka would be now with a full season under his belt. Although hindsight is a wonderful thing.

There is no point bringing Fosu-Mensah back into the team to give him development time for the good of Manchester United. We may as well give that time to W-B for the good of Palace.

Nevertheless I shall change my great for quite reasonable, especially for you.

I like them for their enthusiasm and effort.

Clearly I did not intend to say they are Messi beaters right now.

Or sometimes, even pedantry...

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

If Hodgson feels at this critical time, that Fosu-Mensah is the man for the job instead of Wan-Bissaka he will select him - he will not think of developing a Man Utd player etc etc.

My thoughts from the off with this loan. You don't waste a loan on an unproven rb. Get a player that's going to make a difference up the pitch, a no10 or nippy goalscorer, 2 things we don't have

Held his hands up about the mistake on Twitter, which is more then many would do. I think we should stick with him, ward's injured anyway? TFM I would bring on as a super (fast) sub to shore up the defense or midfield.

I think people are getting dewy eyed over Wan-Bissaka. He has, without doubt, been excellent given the situation we're in and hopefully has a great future.

But he doesn't have Fosu-Mensah's pace or strength when defending and (being critical) has twice shanked the ball into stands from really good positions late in the game against Spurs and Chelsea.

Points are precious at the moment and IMO Roy should have changed things after the game at Huddersfield.

Well done to the kid and great to see an academy player doing themselves justice in the Premier League.

Wan-Bissaka is 40th – and final – product of Palace’s remarkable football school
Exciting full-back is the parting gift from local academy whose ties with the club are being cut
By Tom Cary

Bright future: Aaron Wan-Bissaka has adapted quickly to the Premier League
Peter Yates can still remember watching a young Aaron Wan-Bissaka in action for the first time. Yates, the assistant principal of the Crystal Palace Academy at Oasis Shirley Park, was watching a year-nine PE class when a boy he had not really registered before received the ball, turned and ran at his classmates.
“Within the space of about five yards, Aaron had beaten two or three players, accelerated and smashed the ball into the top corner,” he recalls. “I rang Palace immediately and said, ‘You’ve got a player on your hands here.’ ”
After seven years, the partnership between the south London club and the Oasis Academy Shirley Park is coming to an end this summer. Yates says he is “unsure” why, given that 40 boys from the school have gone on to sign apprentice forms for Palace, including Sean Scannell, who made 130 appearances for the club over five years. “I can’t believe any other school in the country has produced 40 boys for one football club in the last seven years,” he adds. The academy will continue to develop players, he says, just not specifically for Palace.
Even if Wan-Bissaka, who joined the club aged 11, is the final gift the scheme bequeaths, it may have been worth it for that one player alone. Having been thrust into first-team action thanks to injuries to Joel Ward and Martin Kelly, he has been the club’s standout player, winning the club’s player-of-the-month award after imperious displays against the likes of Spurs, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Throw in a first England Under-20 call-up – albeit he was sent off in a 1-0 win over Poland – and no wonder Palace fans are already smitten. He has even been bequeathed his own chant to the tune of Rock the Casbah by The Clash. Their giddiness is understandable. Wan-Bissaka follows in the illustrious footsteps of other young, local talents such as Nathaniel Clyne, Victor Moses and Palace’s current totem, Wilfried Zaha, although there have been precious few academy graduates afforded game time in the Premier League.
Yates is clearly proud of the part the Oasis Academy played in the 20-year-old Wan-Bissaka’s development although he adds that, despite the player’s potential, it was not always obvious that he would make it to the top.
“Aaron wasn’t necessarily viewed as the best prospect at the time,” he admits. “He just didn’t have bags of self-confidence. He was very quiet, very humble.
“But what he did always have were those attributes which are so in demand in the modern game: pace, height. It’s great to see him blossoming. He’s an inspiration to our current players.”
Wan-Bissaka has certainly proved a godsend for Roy Hodgson but he is now so integral that, even with the long-serving Ward fit again, the manager is minded to leave the youngster in for tomorrow’s clash against Brighton. Palace, just three points above Southampton (who have a game in hand) and the final relegation spot, badly need the points, but Hodgson says he would have no qualms about playing him again.
“I think he’s done exceptionally well,” Hodgson said. “From about the second or third game on, you’re asking yourself the question, ‘Is the right thing to leave him in and expose him again to the pressure? Or is the right thing maybe to give him a rest?’
“[Ward’s return] leaves me with a decision. But I certainly trust Aaron Bissaka. If he was to lose his place [against Brighton] and I’m not saying he will, I would expect him to knock on my door and ask me why.”
Wan-Bissaka, for his part, will just get on with it, as he has done consistently these past few weeks. These are still very early days in his development, but not so early that Palace fans are not already beginning to dream that he might be the next Clyne – another athletic right-back blessed with a maturity beyond his years.
Inevitably, there could now be a scramble to secure his services at senior international level. Of Congolese descent, his appearance for the England under-20s does not preclude him representing them if he so chooses.
He has already made an appearance for the DR Congo under-20s and if his progress continues at this rate, do not be surprised if he is soon fielding phone calls from international federations keen to persuade him to commit to them.
England, for one, should be mindful, considering they allowed Zaha to slip through their fingers after giving him lukewarm signals while he was pondering whether to commit to his adopted country or his native Ivory Coast.
Yates, for one, believes Wan-Bissaka would be worth making the effort for. “You never want to saddle a guy with too much pressure when he’s only played five or six games,” he laughs. “But Aaron used to be a right winger- back when he was with us. You look at all these wingers dropping back: Danny Rose, Clyne. I think Aaron has similar attributes.”

Ward was the only right back we had at the time and people were saying we needed cover, and from what I remember were delighted to get hold of him.

Thought he was unlucky not to play in the Brighton game, he has been an excellent introduction to the first team.

Also that was a bit of a tough one for Wardy to come straight back into with him having to take on Brighton’s pacy winger...
