Been supporting them since 90 and witnessed the Oldham relegation loss against all odds. The difference now being so many teams in more precarious situation than us.

We’ll be fine now

I have spoken

With so many below us, and the fact many of the teams play each other, it is virtually impossible that we will go down now.

Plus looking at Huddersfield fixtures and even Brighton we must be safe.

I am a very happy man tonight...

Folks look up not down. Given the management since Roy took over. The collective spirit of the team. The return of the injured. The never say die form of the players we are safe and playing well.

Apologies if I'm wrong, but now Stoke cannot mathematically catch us, Swansea (assuming they stay behind versus Chelsea) could still get 42 points if winning all their remaining 3 games, including home to Southampton, but only 39 if they lose one game and their GD is significantly worse than ours. Southampton could gain a maximum of 41 points, but only if they took 3 points off Swansea within their remaining 3 games. One defeat would give them a maximum of 38 points. If this is correct, it means it is almost impossible for both of them to catch us and we are therefore safe.
Well done today, Palace.

If Swansea lose today (and they are already one down) their last 3 games are Soton, Stoke and Bournemouth - all teams below us therefore points will be a-shared.

Southampton are also away to Everton and home to Man City

Plus there's every chance Huddersfield won't get another point, and the same goes for Brighton.

It (relegation for us) ain't gonna happen. This ISN'T an "Oldham situation" where it was basically us or them.

This is the clincher. They have to get 4 points in their last 3 games against Citeh and Chelski away and the Arse at home. As they can't score for toffee or even against them today cannot see this.

See you next season and well done on such a great season after that dreadful start.

I suspect a few in the media will be gutted Hodgson has done so well.

Yep as mentioned on another thread this is the clincher. Due to goal difference they need 4 points from those 3.

The long and short of all this is that one one hand it is mathematically possible we can be relegated yet in the realms of probability it is unlikely.

I am enjoying the moment for what it is worth and shall enjoy it when it becomes a mathematical certainty, and really breath a sigh of relief then.

Until then I will look forwards to the Stoke game and keeping an eye on the results of the teams around us.

I agree with both sides of the debate, the mathematical certainties V the probabilists. We each have our own threshold of when we deem it time to give that sigh of relief!

This is like that scene in HG Wells film, Journey to the Centre of the Championship, where he meets all these complacent young people who have no historical perspective.

He tries to warn them they are in danger, but they all ignore him or dismiss him as a madman.

No, no, no! Thrice no!

I remember a home game where Palace tonked Ipswich. The announcer said, "see you next season in the Premier league*"

And the Holmesdale all cheered. I was in the Old Stand. Foolishly, I got caught up along with all this madness, cheering as the players did a lap of honour

Ring any bells?

And you know what happened next?

Cut to the final game of the season, away at Highbury.

Palace will probably stay up, because there's no way Oldham will win again, we thought.

I.....I...... I can't tell you what happened next.

All I remember is that my friend, an Arsenal fan, found me on the VIctoria line, incapable of speech. (Mind you, I was trollied and had been kicked out of two pubs, for swaying)

Never take anything for granted. The referee might be Mike Riley, reincarnated, and he might make up some on-the-spot rules that allow Palace to have points deducted.

Anything could happen.

Put the bunting back in the box.

Put those lights out!

We're doomed, you hear me. Doomed!!!!!!

(*Or was it called The First Division. It was so long ago now.)

If Swansea lose tonight we are guaranteed to be safe as they have to play Southampton and they both cannot win!!!

WELL DONE ROY AND THE BOYS.
