Do we really want to force a player to stay at the club if he really wants away ? Not sure that it benefits either party.

I think the increase in clean sheets has a lot more to do with Guaita in goal than AWB. Not saying he isn’t an incredible talent, but the change in goalkeeper was crucial.

It has even more to do with sitting back more, conceding possession, rarely attacking or only when the opposition have everyone behind the ball. At home anyway.

I don’t know what’s hard to understand about Wilf wanting to win some serious silverware whilst he’s at his peak. It would be different had we won the FA Cup.

Yes I think he might be frustrated with our football, not the football club. The effort at Watford in the fa cup was pathetic, as was Brighton at home in the same period.

Maybe he is thinking about the games we beat Man City and Arsenal away, knowing we can build on those. He gets the freedom to play where he wants, will he get that at other clubs, I don't think managers like Pep would put up with his moaning after every tackle made on him.

Wilf signed a long term deal on big money a year ago and presumably he knew what he was doing when he did so.

If he wants to leave because of broken promises, then come out and say so.

In fact what has he said directly ? Even that stuff about Champions League football was only in answer to a question.

This is precisely the point He (or at least his advisors) knew that by accepting a longer deal with no buy out clause and on more money that he was tied to the club. This means the club will decide if and when it sells and at what price.

The fact that Man U have a sell on clause also makes matters more difficult.

These sort of rumours come up every transfer window. If they have come from Wilf or his advisors then the club needs to act. He signed the long term deal and should expect to honour it.

If Wilf wants out then he should not be making it public

But there is a number of things he could do
Put in a transfer request,
Offer to buy out his contract
Pay the Man U 25% buy out clause fully or in part out of his signing on fee.
Any agent fee is paid back to the club etc

For Wilf that will mean his financial gain for moving will be smaller and his move will purely be for his ambition

If the club have genuinely put a £100m price tag on him then unless Man City or PSG come in he will still be here when we kick off. That price is not a 'come and get me' amount, similar to Leicester putting £90m tag on carthorse Harry.

You’ve omitted player power in today’s game. Spot on otherwise.

...or it's just journalists trying to make up a story so they have something to write about in the close season?

Exactly.

Even if there is some "gentleman's agreement" about one more season it matters not. He signed up for a extension of 3 years on hugely increased terms.

The legal documents don't recognise his feelings regarding wanting to play champions' league football elsewhere.

Exactly. When I saw him come on as sub v SA and in other games for the Ivory Coast he looks half the player he is for us. Never gets the ball in positions to run at people or when he does he never seems to have the same pace and confidence to do so.

Also in the game v SA they were discussing whether he should move and the commentator said he had spoken to him and Zaha gave the impression to him that he's likely to stay at Palace.

According to Ian Holloway Parish doesn't honour agreements unless they are confirmed in writing
