Everton haven't improved much in the window, with Lookman out and Delph in being the only significant moves. They lack a goal-scoring striker and their defence needs reinforcements. Unless they bring in 3 or 4 quality signings I can't see them doing hugely better than last season. No way are they anywhere near CL material as it stands, with Arsenal and Man United, and even Leicester and Wolves, arguably in a stronger position going into the new season (excluding last season's top 4). Unless things change I would say they're an outside bet for Europa League spot and maybe the league cup, but could equally end up below us if we work some last-minute transfer miracles.

They also sold Vlasic - but he had been on loan, anyways. Actually, with youngsters Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin up front they are pretty well set but I agree about defence with Zouma back at Chelsea and veterans Williams and Jagelkia no longer around.

Tom Davies seems to have fallen off the map there. Only just turned 21. More attractive option than McCarthy I would have thought

I believe he signed a new contract in pre-season.
Made 19 appearances last season but I don't know how many were from the bench.

His uncle is Alan Whittle whom some of us oldies saw play for our club! Those who did will recall the song "Five foot two, eyes of blue,Alan Whittle's after you" !

Indeed I do. Signed from Everton I believe and scored the winner at Sunderland in 1976 quarter-final. Great player

Those were the days. We had a strike force of Alan Whittle and Derek Possee both of whom were about 3'6" tall

I think we were after Joe Harper from Aberdeen but he went to Everton and they sold us Alan Whittle who then scored on his debut in the 5-0 Man U win of blessed memory.
Wiki informs he was the first Englishman to play in the Iranian League which is a claim to fame of sorts.

Both Leicester and Wolves it pains me to say have improved significantly already this summer with the latter bringing in players who played for Real Madrid and AC Milan and have bid 70m for RubenDias and another Benfica player tonight, Gedson? They are a serious threat to the top six and Leicester have been there done it and will be thereabout too.

We can carry on dreaming for now.

Multiple reports of a £55m all cash offer from Everton.
Why would we even consider it? Surely an immediate rejection should be issued.

I was there on the Homesdale. They tried to take our end throwing bricks at us. Whittle scored a cracker.

Me too. Made it even better that it was on The Big Match as well. Don Rogers doing his Pele trick on Alex Stepney was a thing of joy.
