If this is going to happen, we need a bid in for Iwobi or someone similar now.

We cannot lose Zaha and not sign a big name winger today.

And the club had better hope that Maxim turns out to be rubbish at Newcastle, otherwise that'll start looking like a blindingly obvious miss very quickly.

Reading the John Barnes, Zaha article below make’s an interesting read and to honest I think he has hit the nail on the head. Zaha is not going to be given the freedom of the pitch, as he has got at Palace if he joins a big club . Do you put Everton in that class. At Palace he is the driving cog as we have seen, Palace struggle without him in the team, just as we did when we had Peter Taylor. As Barnes points out Zaha game will be affected he won’t have the same roll as he has with Palace.
We have all seen it when things don’t go right Zaha starts moaning, dwells on his frustration and then does something stupid by getting himself booked. Now I am not knocking Wilfred for wanting to better himself, but to be honest I must say I am a little surprised by Zaha attitude over this. When all this first started I want to leave Palace came about his only destination was Arsenal because he is a massive Arsenal fan, now it’s Everton, who are splashing the cash like no end. As we have seen in the past clubs that splash big don’t always get the success that warrants their spending, results, league position and the managers position is then questioned. When that goes all wrong is he going to want to come back just like at Manu.

My impression (for what it’s worth) is that Parish wouldn’t stand in Zaha’s way if a really good offer came in. And by ‘rumoured accounts’ Everton did come in with a pretty good offer of £70m plus Tosun and McCarthy, which Parish turned down? It could be that a Zaha felt let down/betrayed by this and promptly slapped in a transfer request?

I think the point Zaha is missing is that a “reasonable offer” doesn’t mean just asking price. Timing is important too. An £80m offer at 4:45pm today isn’t reasonable however would have been seen as reasonable two weeks ago.

It’s the timing of the offer though. We have bought MacArthy so you can add him onto the Everton bid, but nobody can claim we want or are ‘after’ Tosun. Interesting that Everton didn’t hold onto MacArthy until a resolution on Zaha leaving but let him out the door asap, isn’t it?

If this had happened a week ago Wilf would have a point on our poor window, and Parish wouldn’t be able to claim it’s left him in the sh1t, although it would’ve done quite a bit, but not tonnes of sh1t like it has now.

I wonder whether there might be something more to his late transfer request than we know about.

There have been media claims that there was a gentleman's agreement that he could leave if a suitable offer was made and if Ian Holloway is to be believed (and I don't see why he wouldn't be) Parish reneges on gentleman's agreements if it suits him

I too heard about the gentleman’s agreement in return for signing a lengthy money enhancing contract and believe it may be true, however you can bet the conversation didn’t include handing in a transfer request a day before the window closes if the situation didn’t suit Wilf.

Wilf will have known two things when that agreement was struck.

1) it would have to be at a price that suited the club.
2) the club would have to be in a position to replace him once the situation arose.

These are all reasonable things to ask. If we could get Sarr in or Maximin (that boat has now sailed), then fair enough but we could be left without our star player and no replacement and lord knows who will be available in January and at what price.

Not sure who is to blame in this, Parish, Wilf, probably both. All we know now is that we will have an answer by the end of the day. All in all a very unsatisfactory situation.

And Everton, but Parish is experiencing what he tries on himself.

I’d love to know what he thought this morning when he looked in the mirror. Funny answers welcome.

If I were Parish I’d be on the phone to Chelsea to see if they’re interested in a prearrangement.

I'm not sure that Wilf would be happy with that as it would mean that he has to struggle along on only £130,000 a week for another year

my view on the 'gentlemans agreement' is that Wilf has only just woken up and realised that last year he and his ridiculously inept team got well and truly out negotiated last year. So he is cross.

It seems likely what Parish will have wanted from that negotiation is one thing and one thing only. To get the release clause removed out of Wilf's contract.

Somehow he managed to get it done by chucking in an extra 10k a week and then (in my imagination) looked Wilf in the eye and promised that of course he would sell him if they get a reasonable offer in from a top team. He would never hold Wilf back from his dreams.

Of course keeping very quiet about defining what 'reasonable' might mean or even what constitutes a 'top team' - I doubt either of them expected Everton. He even managed to get an extra year on the contract.

Without the release clause Parish is holding out for the big money. Maybe the club really has to have that massive fee to sort out the boardroom, especially after the cut that goes to Man Utd. Maybe it really will allow the stand to be built.

If Wilf hadn't agreed the new contract last year he would have gone already - probably to Arsenal on the cheap - or whatever that release clause was.

What a pathetic episode on Zaha's and his (I use the word loosely) advisors' part.
Should have just put his request in at the end of the season and gone about it properly but couldn't resist trying screw every last penny to finance their next Lambo or Roller. God is Great LOL.

When you're on £130k a week and worth £50m or more there's no such thing as a gentleman's agreement.
