He needs us and we need him now. That’s how it is for me, and I reckon the angle Roy spoke to him about how crucial the next 4-9 months are for us all.

I’m quite realistic and down to Earth about these footballers and what I think they’re capable of or I expect from them apart from exceptions like Julian Speroni or the spine of the promotion team. It’s a business now of commodities and limited loyalty.

True. He’s worth 80 million to us and about 50 million to anyone else.
The top 4 don’t want him. The next 4 do , until better/younger/cheaper ones come along Pepe/Iwobi . No one will buy him, all the talk about Chelsea, they won’t pay 80 million.
He’s f*vked , can’t see him going anywhere. He’d like too, we’d like him too, who’s paying? No one.

Most exciting player I've seen in red and blue. Happy if he stays forever even if disgruntled. Usually plays his best that way anyway!

I just wish we could have some transparency on what actually has gone on. It's all speculation as to what sort of bids we have received, what "gentleman's agreement" if any was reached about being allowed to leave etc. Arsenal spent 70 mill on a player but only 20 mill up front according to reports. That would have been no good to us. How was Everton's bid structured? Why did Wilf leave it so late to put in a transfer request? He must have known it would have been too late for us to spend the money. We often see reports saying personal terms have been agreed before the actual transfer is nutted out so did the clubs talk to Wilf. Questions, questions.

Get behind him when his shown the club utter disrespect.

Him putting in a transfer request a day before the the window shut was him pretty much pi**ing on his employees and the fans.

When he apologises to his Roy,his team mates and Steve and the fans then I'll get behind him.

I'm at the game today, won't be booing him but won't be cheering him either.

Yep, I think this is pretty much the right attitude.

Zaha has been behind a far amount of our success in recent years.....to boo him is not only counter productive it doesn't recognise what he's achieved.

However, no one player can just behave like he has done and and expect adoration.

Silence seems more appropriate.

I think these are the essentials, correct me if I'm wrong:

Signs a 5 year contract with improved pay

Hands in a transfer request one year into that contract, a day before the window closes

Call me old fashioned, but that doesn't seem the way to go about it.

Sorry BE, I really tend to agree with you more often than not but I don’t this time. What has he got to apologise for. He submitted a transfer request which he is well within his rights to do so, formally showing the club he wants to leave and losing his loyalty bonus in the process. The club didn’t let him leave and he remains a Palace player. As long as he works hard while he is here he has done absolutely nothing wrong by trying to leave in my opinion.

All well and good in theory, but it is never the same feeling towards a player once they decide they want to leave, if they don't want to be at Palace, they don't have that extra commitment.

I’d suggest the fact he’s steered us through umpteen seasons of relegation battles indicates he does have that extra commitment. If I worked for Happy Shopper and Waitrose kept wanting me to work for them (with nicer conditions, more pay and a higher likelihood the company will be successful) but it never quite happened I wouldn’t be jubilant either. No matter how much I loved my Happy Shopper roots and all my Happy Shoppers customers.
Would I expect my Happy Shopper customers to be annoyed with me when I came back for my first shift? No. Would I expect them to cheer every time I scanned a grocery? Absolutely.

The AFCON players need less pre season theoretically as maintained fitness

I sincerely hope not!

It would send a very divisive message to the rest of the squad who have grafted through pre season that any player (not specifically Wilf) can waltz into the first team without doing the hard yards required by others.

I’m sure Roy wouldn’t be that stupid!

I think one good thing about the separation of managers from transfer business in modern football is that in this case, Wilf can still respect and play for Hodgson.
