People may recall an incident in the England v Australia rugby World Cup match. The England prop, Sinckler, traditionally combustible, was having a ding-dong with his opposite number at a scrum and predictably gave away a penalty - upon which his opponent put himself right in Sinckler's face, wearing an enormous, ugly, mocking grin. To general astonishment, Sinckler, rather than confronting him, just walked away. Someone - perhaps the England coach - said afterwards that it marked a milestone in the player's development. Since then he has been a star for England.

The point of this ramble? Sit Wilf down and make him watch it. After all, anything's worth trying.

I've been saying for a while that Wilf needs to work with a professional sports psychologist. Too late now anyway?

Sounds like something Clive Woodward says in the studio.

It’s his security blanket. The cry in a minute chant has some truth to it because Zaha hasn’t moved onto the level of maturity needed although in some matches he does get targeted, but then brings it onto himself in others. He could easily minimise these problems instead of adding to them.

We have more summer off pitch drama to come although his entourage might have lost a lot of respect and credibility surely? Oh it’s the EPL so someone will carry it on until he really is old news.

He had numerous chances yesterday to get past Burns but got done for pace. He has definitely lost a lot of pace. Last season I would have said we would struggle badly without him but not any more. He is a fantastic player but is only playing for himself. It said it all yesterday when he didn’t he even bother celebrating when we won, he was consumed with feeling selfish because he couldn’t score.

There’s is not a snow balls chance in hell of a big club signing him.

I honestly have never seen a professional football player react to the crowd the way he does. It is pathetic, cupping his ears like a WWF wrestler. PVA got stick all game and just laughed at them.

Anyway, I don’t live in fear of him leaving anymore.

Excellent, perceptive post.

And you're right about PVA. Every time he went to take a corner in front of the Newcastle supporters last week he had a broad smile on his face.

Good post and it is reassuring to know that we can get results when Wilf isn't performing. The downside, of course, is who will now be willing to buy him and for what price?

Must say there has been a major shift this season... Wilf has a least three players on him every game they at least double up... other teams know he is our major threat so I think it’s a little unfair to say he’s not the player he was .. he still has more ability than most in the Premier League .....

More than 2 years in Wilf contract. Top salary. Chairman won’t listen to less than £80m on a good day. He will be 30 before he is a free agent. My guess is he is with us for the foreseeable. Bloody great. Even though this season due to tactical ice and marking he seems to have wained, he is still an all time star for Palace and we are lucky to have him.

If Wilf was a player we bought from championship for $10m last summer, everyone would be slating him and saying what a waste of money he is.

It's a sad decline...but the sooner he moves on, the better for me.

I hope he stays with us for a few more years but he just hasn’t got the football brain that the elite players have. I don’t think he’s had a terrible season but he needs to change the way he plays. He has lost the acceleration to get past players like he used to and he burdens himself so much by trying to score and he is never relaxed.

By his high standards, I think we can consider it a pretty bad one.

The pitch was very slow on Saturday and it clearly made it hard to run with the ball, which is a big part of Wilf's game. Having said that, aside from a few cameos he has not been the player he was last season and I don't think we can just blame it on teams doubling up on him as last season he could beat two, even three players at a time. The sad thing is that if he goes in the summer it will be on a bit of a sour note, when in reality he is probably more responsible than any other player for our record stay in the PL. As a pundit said on Saturday, you can't ask not to be treated like a pantomime villain and then very next game go and act like one.

Come on Wilf, give us a big send off and help push us up the table.
