It's not envy. It's a hate of injustice. When someone, say a carer doing a really necessary job is unlikely to earn
in a year - say £20K what an EPL player considers that an insult for a week for his efforts playing a game, don't you think that some priorities have gone a bit crazy?

You use the word "piorities" as if inequality of incomes is something we choose, whereas it's just an inevitable consequence of competition in a free country. Governments that have attempted to control pay - the elderly amongst us will remember Wilson and Heath - brought the country close to ruin.

Should there be a cap on footballers' earnings? Should there be an earnings cap on every occupation? How should these caps be decided? Should carers, because they're arguably more valuable than footballers, earn more than them? What a minefield.

Nurses should simply be paid more (same with teachers). If you value and invest in these you invest in your country. Maybe now this is recognised internationally it might be more likely to happen rather than being hesitant because companies and business flea abroad due to taxes.

Nurses should also be trained in Britain. Trouble is that taxes will rise so much that there will only be so much that can be done and voters will start wishing this or that didn’t happen, or if they have any conscience, they didn’t do this or that.

Makes you think.

If only you would.
All you've told me is that most people are tax-negative.
Does that make you think?

Again, like Wilf’s rental income, and not begrudging it, Wilf’s prem wages and taxes come from sky tv subscriptions which would otherwise be spent by people on other things. You could say that about anything but there would be professional football whatever the wage packet. Most couldn’t do anything else.

Since this planned-emic, 'cryst' seems to have a problem with the self-employed receiving 'X-amount' from the govt because they wave a bit of cash about ie they have been avoiding tax therefore why should they receive 'a handout' during these difficult times etc etc.
If avoiding tax is such a big issue for him then there are plenty of bigger fish for him to rant about.
As for Wilf, i'm happy to add to his wage through my subscriptions, i just wish that a man who earns in 1wk what many earn in 4yrs would 'provide for his future'(you gotta be kidding me) somewhere other than an already over-inflated property market.

It's what you generate for the company, business you work for. Hence why city bankers earn millions because they make millions. PL footballers earn millions because TV pay billions. Market forces.

Ah the bankers. Do you think they've made up for their bail out? Market forces need controlling to a degree. After all this virus crap is done and Sky has lost billions it'll be fun to see the how players and their sense of entitlement holds up.

Wilf has made what appears to be a very generous gesture. Perhaps it is not an entirely selfless gesture, but then very little is. I say applaud him and stop using him as whipping post for the ills of the modern game. Zeki Fryers turning up in a Bentley, now that was grotesque.

Well done to anyone who does help others, although when you have empty properties for however long I kind of side with the view you really should do anyway.

And I don’t congratulate people who make lots of money from lots of money in property (he wasn’t Wilf with nothing when he started his portfolio)

Neither do I congratulate footballers for paying tax or being tax contributors, as if they’ve been great inventors and employers. They essentially earn Sky tv subscription money from us punters and then avoid and then pay the tax they have to back. That punter money would’ve been spent by us on something else and the amount of earnings is because of us. If it wasn’t for the premier league they’d be earning a bank manager wage and not more than film stars.

There might be some adjustment to this through market forces in the aftermath of the virus with such a long downtime from sport, football on tv, economic effects of the virus and lack of income.

It has been mentioned that following the Coronavirus pandemic, most clubs will have alot less to spend on transfers. One agent commented that you are likely to see many more swap deals or loans.

Where does that leave us with Wilf when the season does finish. It's highly unlikely anyone will be outlaying the 80m wanted by Palace even more now.

Does he end up staying after all ?

Or do we end up player swaps ?

Best case scenario:
No club will want him. The enforced layoff has allowed all his injuries to heal. After getting match fitness, he's back to his best. And oh yeah, in the layoff, he's consulted a shrink and sorted his temper issues.

Wilf should look back at Henrik Larsson. In a WC match, he was booked for diving, when it was obvious to all he'd been blatantly fouled. His reaction was to laugh - a genuine laugh, at the sheer incompetence of the ref.
Great player, great attitude.

Wilf must be going mental he’ll never get his big move... at Parish, his agent, himself, circumstances, luck, David Moyes, our tactics. Or maybe chelsea are prepared to buy him. I can’t say I’m expecting anyone to stump up at his age and form. Everything is so up in the air atm I wouldn’t know what to think until some matches are played again. Some dynamics are going to change but nobody will know which exactly and by how much. Could make it more interesting.
