I think along the same lines. Ignoring the rights and wrongs of how this came about I think a one match ban for sarcastically clapping the Ref is quite lenient and I suspect the FA could see that the referee had "a bad game" and this is reflected in the leniency of the punishment.

wonder if the FA privately agree the reffing was shyte and have set this up to be a symbolic punishment...(which would assume they think we'll beat Donny without him)

it's good Roy has been playing Wilf in the cup. shows he'd be there if available, makes it a real punishment.

let's be honest, it wasn't great what he did. not terrible but not great. no matter how crap they are, refs deserve respect from players on the pitch at every level.

my lad's been playing fifa, getting Wilf sent off, and trying to find a 'sarcastic clap' button. he's also been re enacting it. so Wilf is a role model to at least one palace mad kid.

obviously this doesn't have any baring on whether the fa is a competent or consistent administrator -- it clearly isn't

I suppose he couldn't have said "Sorry and I'll behave myself in future" then got away with a one match ban? Couldn't someone senior at the club have spoken to him since they pay him £130k (or whatever) a week?

So yet again the PC brigade aka FA rules. We all know that any emotional behaviour is stamped on hard compared to vicious cynical tackles, elbows in faces etc.
VAR has to be the future. When football finally accepts to operate it as rugby do all these sorts of things will be significantly reduced.
I would suggest if the Ward Prowse blatant foul on Wilf that led to the incident had been given and a yellow card shown, then Wilf would not have blown a fuse and seen red.
So the perpetrator gets away scot free while Wilfis punished for his show of anger.
VAR on its way and so overdue.
Like tennis, I would allow each manager the right to call it say twice per half if an incident passes unnoticed

I thought this. It’s seems crazy that it has been dragging on for 9 days and he is only just been given an extra game ban. We are now at appeal process the eve before the second premier league game (I know he was already suspended for the first).

I don’t think that even had VAR been in operation at St Mary’s it would have dealt with a minor incident like JW-P’s foul on Wilf. Otherwise games would become a laughing stock, being halted for questionable fouls. Obviously in retrospect we know that it was a foul and a catalyst to Wilf’s petulance, but that is irrelevant.

Unfortunately he dug his own grave with his comments earlier in the season. His treatment from refs and opposition has deteriorated since then. He’s now such an easy target and he is incapable of controlling himself. It’s a downward spiral.

By the end of the season he’ll be sick of the Premier League and will go to Dortmund. Premier Leagues loss but more importantly our loss.

I don’t think it was JWP’s foul that actually caused this whole situation. It was the aftermath where he pretended to throw the ball into Wilf’s face, spat at the floor and then laughed at him.

I dont think the 10,000 fine and a one match ban is too bad , i would imagine that he would get at least a fine of 1 weeks wages also as every player in the world knows you cant get away with that on the pitch , it was pure petulance . hopefully he will learn from this and concentrate on his strengths and run rings around the likes of that little t*** jwp. hopefully , if we dont win against wet spam because of his absence the 3 points wont be the cause of us getting relegated .

oh yeah ,fcuk off brighton.

I hope, but somehow doubt it, that the people looking at referees' performances, had a look at this one. After all, there were a few serious things which shouldn't have been missed, including what amounted to an assault on Tompkins at a corner, which would have won applause at American Football! I'm not excusing Wilf, but can understand his frustration, on occasions. He'd do well to see how Townsend plays the game, including the occasions he gets kicked too.

I was referring to the previous comment that stated that JWP would have been cautioned for his foul on Wilf had VAR been operational.

Nonetheless, I am not certain that VAR would have responded any differently had it observed JWP’s behaviour. He is certainly guilty of baiting Wilf, but as far as I am aware I don’t think that that is punishable offense. Happy to be corrected..
