With Wilf being on £130,000 a week that rules him out of a move to Spurs because they just do not pay those sort of wages. Edited by tazzer (12 May 2019 10.43pm) I think that statement is a bit misleading as Spurs do pay their players significant bonuses, appearance fees, etc. to make up for their comparitively lower wages. Furthermore, there are signs of change with Kane now now on 200k pw and even Llorente was given an 80k pw deal when he signed as a back up striker. I imagine if Spurs got as far as getting Zaha to the table Levy would be able to offer something that would encourage him to sign. I would hate that of course as Levy is a pr*ck, but he is undoubtedly one of the shrewdest operators. I really hope that Wilf decides to stay rather than it being a case of no one coming in for him, or not offering enough. He needs to be here because he wants to be here and I hope he decides this is his permanent home.

MLT was constantly linked with other clubs, with everyone saying he needed to leave “lowly” Southampton in order to fulfill his undoubted potential but he was astute enough to realise that he needed the love and adulation of the supporters as much as anything else and there was no guarantee he’d get that at another club. Southampton fans adored him and held him in much the same esteem as we do with Wilf and I think that played a very big part in his decision to stick with Southampton. There’s no club that Wilf could realistically go to that would guarantee him starting every week. The fans of such a club would see him as just another signing and certainly not give him the iconic status he enjoys at Selhurst and would certainly turn on him if he suffered a temporary drop in form. Wilf’s a confidence player and thrives on being the lynchpin of the side. He’s had his fingers burnt already when he went to Man U and it was obvious to see that his confidence and form both fell off a cliff during what was clearly a very unhappy episode in his career. There are so many boxes that need to be ticked for him to get the successful transfer he thinks he wants that I believe, for what it’s worth, that he’ll decide to stay put at Palace. I genuinely do.

Great post Cuckers, I hope you're right. I was saying after the game yesterday that Wilf has brought me the most pleasure and given me the most entertainment than any other player I've ever seen in the red & blue in 45-odd years of support. Yes he deserves to play at a higher level and I wouldn't begrudge him another go at a top club, but I'd still be massively gutted if he left, purely from a selfish point of view. I love Wilf and would miss him hugely if he went. The fact he's a local lad and seems like a top bloke just increases my admiration for him.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha wants out' by Midlands Eagle I remember the day Wilf made his debut v Cardiff, I was also a teenager same age as him thinking the same thing I had thought 3 years before when seeing Vic Moses and Sean Scannell make their debuts.. theyre so lucky. I would love more than anything for Wilf to stay here for the remainder of his career and become a legend like Le Tissier at Southampton, but for the first time theres this part of me that has resigned to the fact he will be leaving this summer.. The eagerness to impress and score a goal mixed with the 89th minute substitution Sunday felt like a goodbye. If he does go, i cant blame him, hes stayed at Palace alot longer than most players of his quality would, he deserves champions league football.. I just hope he moves abroad if he does. Never have I celebrated a dribble as passionately as Wilf skinning those two players for the Andros goal. If he carried on and pinged it top bin I’m fairly confident I would have been stretchered out. hahahha, I was the same. He was like the incredible Hulk. Unbelievable stuff. Up there with my favourite moment of the season. The man is strong as an ox he can can s***e standing up.

He is the best tool we have to get better players, he just needs to threaten to leave and it should push the board into signing more quality players.

Jefferson Lerma who had got involved with Wilf about 1 minute earlier. Yes he should have had a yellow but he didn't. He got Son sent off the week before and had a confrontation with Dele Alli, expect him to see red a few times next season.
