I still cannot believe that my best mate Alan is no longer with us.

I first met Alan in the school playground when we were both 12. He asked me who I supported and I said you’ll laugh (nearly everyone in our area supported Chelsea). He said no I won’t so I told I him Crystal Palace. Brilliant replied Alan, so do I & from that day a long lasting friendship was formed with the most caring, loving & funny guy I have ever known.

I have so many fond memories of him having holidayed with him & his loving late parents, John & Betty and toured Europe with him. Alan was a very good footballer (centre half) and as well as being Captain for the school, he played for the County and was on the youth books at Brentford. I often said to him that he was better than some of the players that have turned out for Palace. Jim Cannon, who we had the pleasure of playing golf with at a Charity Golf event around 6 years ago, was Alan’s hero and it made Alan’s day to meet & chat with Jim.

Despite suffering from Asthma, Alan also excelled at cross country running and was Merton Champion during his school days. He took part in the London Marathon in the 80’s and achieved a very respectable time of just over 4 hours. Alan was a very keen follower of Horse Racing and a was a member of the Elite Racing Club.

As many have said, Alan was a true gentleman and he will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Watching matches at Selhurst will never be the same.

A stockbroker urged me to buy a stock that would triple its value every year. I told him, at my age, I don't even buy green bananas!

Alan knew the game inside-out. He could spot deficiencies in formation (a word he didn't care for much), even as the teams were announced.

On this occasion, (fuelled by high-energy alcoholic drinks), Alan came up with this master plan to defeat the opposition

Haha what’s with the cat?

Monkey, are you blind ? That is so obviously a donkey, and is representative of Alan's favourite striker, Shefki Kuqi.
Also note he has crossed Dave off the substitutes bench

Other stuff is far too technical

One of the things I loved sitting with them was Alan ranting about David Wright in one ear, George ranting about Speroni in the other ear whilst singing an alcohol fuelled overture of Power to the Palace, Paul chuckling away and Steve sitting quietly with a wry smile on his face. Definitely miss that these days.

Had the pleasure of meeting Alan a number of times home and away thanks to Paul. We shared one too many beers and silly chats about this, that and Palace.
The speed at which this escalated was frightening, it won't be the same without him, a truly lovely man.
To all of us who had the pleasure, lets keep Alan and of course his family in our hearts.

I didn't know Alan as many did on here but from all the kind words that have been said he was obviously a top guy and through and through Palace, who will be sorely missed.

My condolences to his family.

R.I.P Alan
