I don't think that is relevant. He is the patron saint of England and it is documented that we have celebrated that as far back as Alfred The Great. My comments to every Englishman is not some racist code. I would not offer salutations to a non English person on our national day unless I knew they celebrated it. Likewise I would not tell a Muslim or Jew they should celebrate Christmas. It was a simple good luck to all those who wish to celebrate it.

As to how we got to have St George as a patron Saint I leave that to more educated people he is and we do.

The Scots and Irish already get their days off anyway. But yes it's another attempt to bribe for votes.

Shakespeare was born and died on this date, so you celebrate that instead if you like.

St George = Palestinian.

St Patrick = British.

St David = Welsh.

St Andrew = Galilean.

St Wilf = Ivorian.

I'll raise a glass to the whole bunch.

Don't be dim.

The native 'English' themselves come from various parts of northern Europe.

The actual 'Saint' George isn't about the real person at all. It's a mythological symbol.

Just like the English hymn Jerusalem sings about Jesus walking on our green and pleasant lands.

You just don't get it.....You obviously weren't raised with any sense of historical English culture.

King Arthur was probably Welsh, Churchill was half American and the Queen is German. Many of us have Scandinavian, German and Irish genes and the rest, so Britishness isn't really about the constituent parts but commonality. The desire to feel as one under a flag for the mutual benefit a sense of belonging. Some clearly do not share that desire and wish to live seperately and with no love for the country at all. They should leave as soon as possible.

Patriotism is a display. It is not what commonality is about in practical terms. I admit that it is hard to describe what 'Britishness' in any specific way but it is a lot easier to describe those who work against Britain from within.

That is probably the most mis-quoted quote of all time.

Made by Samuel Johnson and he was referring to false patriotism.....not actually the concept of patriotism.

The far left have been misusing that quote for life times.
